What you'll do:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server databases, ensuring the availability and consistent performance of corporate applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.

What we are looking for:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Administration:
    • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
    • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
    • Apply database upgrades, patches, and security configurations.
  • Backup and Recovery:
    • Ensure data integrity and availability by implementing robust backup and recovery strategies.
    • Perform regular database backups, restores, and participate in disaster recovery planning.
  • Performance Tuning:
    • Monitor performance, identify issues, and optimize queries to improve overall system performance.
    • Perform index maintenance, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Security Management:
    • Implement database security controls, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and access management.
    • Conduct audits and ensure compliance with security policies (e.g., SOX, GDPR).
  • Capacity Planning and Monitoring:
    • Proactively monitor server performance, resources, and database storage capacity.
    • Plan for future capacity requirements and identify database growth trends.
  • Automation and Scripting:
    • Develop automation scripts for database administration tasks.
    • Use tools such as PowerShell and SQL Server Agent to automate processes like backups, index rebuilds, and routine maintenance.
  • Collaboration and Support:
    • Work closely with development teams to provide guidance on database design, SQL query best practices, and troubleshooting.
    • Provide 24/7 on-call support for production database environments, as needed.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and changes.
    • Generate reports for system performance, uptime, and other key metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA, including hands-on experience with SQL Server 2012/2016/2019.
  • Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
  • Expertise in SQL Server tools (Profiler, DTA, SSMS, PerfMon, DMVs).
  • Experience with Always On Availability Groups, Replication, Mirroring, and Clustering.
  • Proficiency with T-SQL and writing efficient queries.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and database migration strategies.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Knowledge of compliance standards such as SOX, HIPAA, and GDPR.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification in Microsoft SQL Server (e.g., MCSA, MCSE).
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
  • Experience with NoSQL databases or other RDBMS platforms (MySQL, Oracle, etc.).
