Our Company

The workplace has undergone a complete transformation. Historically, occupancy was consistent; everyone worked in the office five days per week. But in today’s world, occupancy is inconsistent, unpredictable, and dynamic, as work has become more flexible than ever before. To make decisions with confidence, workplace, CRE, and facilities management leaders need a true understanding of how and when their spaces are used.

VergeSense is the company behind the world’s first and only Occupancy Intelligence Platform. Over 220 companies across 50 countries and 140M sqft rely on occupancy intelligence to make confident, fact-based optimization decisions to improve employee experience and decrease costs. VergeSense customers use our Occupancy Intelligence Platform, which is built on a foundation of the industry's most accurate occupancy sensors and other data sources, to right-size their portfolio, validate space planning and designs, optimize cleaning operations, and ensure their teams can always find spaces to work.

About The Role

VergeSense seeks a Firmware Director to lead the end-to-end development/delivery/maintenance of VergeSense’s embedded software. This responsibility spans across multiple disciplines (embedded software, QA, embedded ML), multiple product lines (wired and wireless sensors) and technologies (low power ML image sensors, RTOS & Linux, mesh networks, cellular connectivity). Successful candidates will have led firmware teams across multiple products at different life-cycle stages and operate in a data-first paradigm. Reporting to the VP of Connected Devices the Firmware Director will thrive in a high-growth, fluid, and metrics-oriented environment, with a deep passion for delivering value to customers.

What You'll Do:

Leads teams of firmware, QA, and machine learning engineers.
Foster an environment that is supportive and encourages autonomy - the purpose of what people are working on should be clear, and the method by which they get there should be in their control (not dictated).
Hire, develop, and lead an inclusive, engaged, high-performing team.
Participate in and be accountable for short & long-term road mapping.
Identify, mitigate, and manage risks related to project execution and product delivery.
Advance the development of standards, guidelines, and best practices for the firmware team.
•Champion the pervasive use of data - it doesn’t work if it’s not measured.
Dive in, occasionally, into the sausage making - review a design RFC, peer review a PR, help debug a customer issue. This isn’t core to the day-to-day, but it’s key to understanding what is happening and how things work.
You’ll also work closely with hardware and operations teams to involve firmware in early-phase design and ensure the on-time shipment of hardware products.

Qualifications:

Experience delivering firmware, leading teams of 10 or more, mentoring & developing managers, and managing engineers.
Experience in many (but not all) of the following technologies: RTOS systems, Embedded Linux, C/C++, wireless connectivity (WiFi, Cellular, 802.15, mesh), camera systems, low power / battery-powered systems.
Exposure to computer vision / ML is nice to have worked to ship products at volume (>50k EAU) and support products in the field at volume (100k+ connected devices).
Experienced with using data as the means to measure product performance. Ideally, is comfortable getting hands-on with data (pandas, SQL, R, etc.) i.

A successful candidate resonates and embodies our core values:
Be customer obsessed: Advocate for customers. Constantly listen to customers, prioritize customer needs across every business objective, and continuously add value to the customer experience.
Just get started:  Dive in! You have agency, so take ownership. Don’t hesitate to make decisions and embrace uncertainty as an opportunity to learn.
Deliver quality results:  Maintain razor-sharp focus on what matters. Ruthlessly prioritize, cut distractions, and commit to excellence.
Communicate with high bandwidth:  Communicate in a clear, accurate, and appropriate manner. Encourage different viewpoints and accept feedback. Speak candidly, even when it may be uncomfortable.
Lead with empathy:  Nurture an inclusive workplace environment where people from all backgrounds are seen, heard, and supported. We thrive together.
