What’s the role about?

Based in our Auckland offices and reporting to the IT Operations Manager (NZ), the Engineering Manager will lead our cross-functional engineering team and take ownership of our software development practices, driving the delivery of high-quality solutions.  This role is primarily operational, with a strong focus on day-to-day operations such as the execution of engineering practices, as well as:

• Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and coaching to a small-medium sized engineering team across web development, infrastructure and platform support.
• Define, implement, and continuously refine engineering best practices and software development processes.
• Ensure DevOps pipelines and automation processes are robust, scalable, and continuously optimized.
• Support structured delivery processes, from an engineering perspective, including planning, estimation, release management, and reporting.
• Collaborate closely with the Delivery Manager to ensure incoming work is well-prioritised, clearly defined, and ready for development.
• Partner with senior leadership to ensure engineering execution aligns with strategic business goals and ANZ product priorities.

About you

• Proven experience as an Engineering Manager, Development Manager, or Senior Technical Lead leading a team.
• Strong engineering background across the full software development lifecycle of web applications.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and scale multidisciplinary teams (including development, QA, DevOps).
• Experience implementing and improving modern software delivery practices (Agile, CI/CD, automation, continuous improvement).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to bridge technical and business needs.
• Strong operational leadership skills - comfortable managing day-to-day delivery while driving ongoing improvements.
• Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, React, Node.js) and experience with web frameworks such as React, Angular, .NET API.
• Experience in supporting or developing solutions on Azure cloud services preferred.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design, event drive services, and integration patterns.
• Exposure to automated testing frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) and test strategy development across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels.
• DevOps & Automation: Experience integrating or overseeing implementation of CI/CD tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, DataDog, Dynatrace) and experience supporting production systems, including incident management and root cause analysis.
