As a Laboratory Assistant at Martin North Hospital, you will perform various laboratory procedures. This team recognizes that there is a person behind every sample and works together to provide the best possible care for patients.

This is an entry level position, but with additional education and experience, caregivers in this role have the opportunity to advance into Medical Technician, Medical Technologist or Histologist roles.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting and storing specimens.
  • Operates laboratory equipment and performs routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs.
  • Performs quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies and manages the inventory by transporting and distributing supplies. Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Requires three months on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and CCF policies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.
  • Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.
  • Requires frequent sitting or standing.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
