The Hitachi Energy Indian Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 2600+ skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi Energy’s units in more than 40 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 80 countries.

Mission statement

Support engineering activities under the supervision of senior engineer in all types of projects sizes and complexities& in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. Based on technical specification from end customers and inputs from OU Engineering team, prepare substation layouts and sections, all Primary Drawings, prepare Substation layouts and section drawings, Grounding system drawings, Lightning system design, drawings, Cable routings, preparation of Bill of materials. Coordinate with Engineering Leads, Senior Project Engineers and provide required CAD Engineering support.

Your responsibilities

  • Preparation of all Primary Engineering Deliverables. Experience in handling complete Engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects, Exposure to International experience & Standards IEC, IEEE & AS

  • Substation layouts and section drawings preparation for budgetary offers / tenders / projects based on customer specification

  • Prepare, review and validate Bill of material for tenders or projects based on requirement

  • Responsible for all design calculations related to Primary Engineering

  • Grounding system design, drawings and Bill of Materials Lightning system design, drawings and BoM

  • Planning of review meetings with LPG, workload for team and opex initiatives. Vendor Offer evaluations. 

  • FAT / SAT of primary equipment, system as and when needed.

  • Responsible for obtaining customer approvals for the designs and drawing

  • Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation

  • Take part in customer meetings / site visits for tender/project clarifications Estimation of engineering effort for each project for costing at tender stage

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the documentation for respective tenders and projects as per quality process.

Your background

  • Bachelors Engineering in Electrical

  • You should have 7+ years' experience in Primary Substation Design.

  • Proficiency in required CAD design tools.

  • Knowledge of relevant international standards ex. IEEE, IEC etc.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
