We are seeking a skilled Senior Data Scientist - Visualization to join our team who will have the opportunity to champion our Digital Finance Disruptive Technology Team for Global Finance Services Division.
The incumbent will be expected to operate independently to deliver on accountable results. Challenges include meeting expectations in delivering results, anticipating risks and recommending alternative courses of actions, making timely decisions and developing communication skills.
The preference for this role is to be based out of Whitefield Office, Bangalore, India
Job Summary:
Caterpillar uses quantitative methods such as business simulations, data mining, and advanced statistical techniques to solve problems. The incumbent contributes to this mission by leveraging his or her quantitative analysis, data management, modeling, and/or data visualization skills as an individual contributor to project teams tasked with solving business problems.
The Sr. Data Scientist - Visualization is expected to learn the company’s processes, products, and organization. The incumbent will be expected to operate independently to deliver on accountable results. Challenges include meeting expectations in delivering results, anticipating risks and recommending alternative courses of actions, making timely decisions and developing communication skills.
The job function may include data collection and analysis; development, validation, application, and refinement of statistical models; application of related digital technologies in processing both the inputs and outputs from the models. An example of an expected analytical task would be to create a visualization of the output of a complex machine learning business algorithm that highlights the most critical information in an easy to use and visually appealing way utilizing a digital technology such as PowerBI.
The Sr. Data Scientist - Visualization demonstrates an expanded breadth of knowledge and the ability to handle basic issues independently. The incumbent demonstrates very good communication skills; above average planning and organization, teamwork, and decision-making skills; a strong concern for customers; and has basic knowledge of Caterpillar Inc., and its products and services.
Basic Requirements:
An accredited 4-year degree, preferably in accounting, finance, statistics, economics, mathematics, or a similar field with quantitative coursework and 2-6 years of experience OR Master’s degree in an associated field
Top Candidate Will Also Have:
Excellent analytical skills
Successful candidates will have exhibited the ability to work independently and have demonstrated ability to apply theory and concept
Must have ability to communicate effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as with customers
Must be comfortable working in MS Office, and industry standard statistics and data visualization Packages – Power BI/Tableau
Significant experience using PowerApps to create PowerBI solutions with the ability to intake and output data/text fields to other systems (e.g. DevOps)
Experience working with SQL or statistical languages – R or python.

Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes.
Analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies.

Requirements Analysis:
Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables pertaining to the requirement analysis stage.
Supervises the advanced use of requirements analysis tools and services, including prototyping and use cases.
Produces detailed functional and information requirements models and documentation.
Trains others on requirements walkthroughs and quality reviews.
Utilizes automated diagramming tools to ensure traceability of requirements.
