Position Description

At Sensei Retreats, we balance purpose with play. Guests will enjoy health coaching, 1:1 nutrition, fitness, meditation, and mindset sessions, body treatments, educational workshops, and a variety of outdoor activities amidst breathtaking scenery. The Sensei Guide, specializing in Exercise Physiology, provides personalized support to guests before, during, and after their stay, ensuring an immersive retreat experience. They work alongside a team of guides, including nutritionists, exercise psychologists, and sports psychologists/mindfulness experts. Sensei has designed the guide program to support our guests in achieving greater wellbeing.  

You will be responsible for directing the guest’s experience by better understanding each individual’s goals and intention. You will provide insight and feedback based off of information gathered during a guest assessment to provide a customized program of experiences. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:  

  • Serves as an expert in the field of exercise physiology and movement sciences. 
  • Seeking an individual with a caring, empathetic nature and a strong ability to build rapport. 
  • Use principles of health coaching to support guests in pursuing their personal growth. 
  • Conduct  training and diagnostic sessions to inspire healthy movement practices. 
  • Analyze assessment results to customize guest programs. 
  • Conduct 1:1 sessions with guests to discuss current health, wellbeing, and wellness objectives for their stay. 
  • Lead Sensei movement classes and facilitate group experiences. 
  • Direct the end-to-end guest experience, from initial consultation and assessment, to their last send off session for life after Sensei. 
  • Create reports on the guest journey following their stay.  
  • Create and lead educational workshops and lectures. 
  • Assist in implementing new classes, experiences and packages. 
  • Uphold confidentiality, ethics, and client trust. 
  • Collaborate with team to refine services and ensure guest satisfaction. 
  • Conduct educational sessions, trainings or 1:1 sessions for property team members. 
  • Act as a Sensei ambassador for guests, partners, events (on & off property) and media. 
  • Engage in media and promotional opportunities such as interviews, social media, video demonstrations and special events. Allow use of likeness in promotional materials, advertisements and other brand-related content. 
  • Ensure prompt resolution of guest concerns. 
  • Foster teamwork and cooperation among colleagues. 
  • Adhere to safety protocols and attend relevant training. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience 

  • Masters degree preferred with 3 years of applied experience or Bachelors degree with 7+ years of applied experience. 
  • Certified practitioner in fitness from respected credentialing body (ex. NASM, ACSM, CSCS, PT, AT). 
  • Preferred experience in hospitality and destination travel. 

 

Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities 

  • Proficiency in multiple movement modalities. 
  • Experience with various populations and ability levels. 
  • Familiarity with lab assessments such as VO2 max, FMS, gait analysis, and force plates. 
  • Accredited certification in health or wellness coaching. 
  • Passion for personal and professional development. 
  • Proficient in Apple iOS, Office 365, and/or technology systems. 
  • Strong time management skills.  
  • Ability to create and deliver educational content. 
  • Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and service orientation. 
  • Friendly demeanor, energetic, calm, and empathetic. 
  • Ability to make sound decisions in stressful situations. 
  • Organized and able to prioritize
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions
  • Ability to push and pull equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds
  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, stretch, reach above shoulders, kneel, twist, grip items and be able to walk 10,000 steps+ a day, up and down hills and stairs
  • Responsible for setting up and cleaning equipment
  • Performs additional related duties as requested by a manager at any time
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Candidates must have valid work authorization for the U.S.
  • Need to relocate to Lanai City in Hawaii.
