Assurant, a Fortune 500 company and global provider of risk management solutions for the housing, lifestyle, and auto sectors, has an immediate need in its growing Litigation Practice Group for a Senior Paralegal.  Reporting to the Vice President and Managing Attorney, Litigation, within the Litigation Practice Group, the Senior Paralegal position will be part of a team of attorneys, paralegals, and administrative assistants that supervises and directs Assurant’s litigation matters.  The position will be based out of Assurant’s offices in Atlanta, GA, offering a flexible, hybrid work schedule.   

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

  • Support internal teams of attorneys and business clients across the enterprise.

  • Interface with outside legal advisors and third-party vendors in the management of Assurant’s claims and complex litigation. 

  • Review and analyze incoming lawsuits, regulatory complaints, and subpoenas.

  • Manage all aspects of the civil litigation discovery process, and subpoena process.

  • Maintain and update case management database and tracking systems.

  • Supervise outside counsel and coordinate litigation strategy, under the direction of in-house counsel, to resolve legal disputes expeditiously and economically.

  • Attend and participate in mediations as the company representative.

  • Prepare and present reports on significant litigation developments. 

  • Assist the Litigation Practice Group on other matters and projects as needed.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience at a top law firm and/or corporate legal department, including considerable experience in all phases of civil litigation.  The ideal candidate will have a background in insurance defense, class action litigation, and/or employment matters.

  • Paralegal certification and/or equivalent legal credentials.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Stellar academic credentials, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, proven leadership, and track record of success.

  • Proficiency in legal terminology, court procedures, and document management.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite applications, including PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Highly autonomous and self-motivated work ethic.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy, excellent follow-through, responsiveness, and customer service skills.

  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills, including project and time management skills to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Notary public certification preferred. 

  • Local candidates preferred.  No relocation offered.

  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.

What are the working conditions and physical requirements of this job?  

This position requires incumbents to regularly sit at a desk and operate standard office equipment such as a computer and phone.  Employee is occasionally required to stand and walk, lift, carry and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to talk and hear.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Pay Range:

$62,000.00 - $103,400.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
