The Job
The Senior Manager, Sports Mexico is the operational and business lead for the country’s HBO Sports operation, overseeing day-to-day execution of regional strategies across digital platforms, and HBO Max. Reporting to the VP, Sports Content & Editorial LATAM, the role ensures that regional content, editorial, and studio directives are implemented locally, while maintaining high standards for audience engagement, brand presence, and business growth.

Given the smaller market size, this position combines leadership, coordination, and hands-on responsibilities, with the Senior Manager typically overseeing a small local team while interacting with production and operational functions managed by other regional or Discovery departments.

The Daily – Major Activities

  • Implement and execute regional editorial, content, and programming strategies locally, ensuring brand consistency and quality across platforms.
  • Lead a small local team (1–2 direct reports), managing daily operations, schedules, and resource allocation.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with regional pillar leads (Production, Digital & Social, Talent, Design) to ensure local execution aligns with LATAM directives.
  • Coordinate with Discovery-managed production teams to integrate live and studio productions without direct oversight of those staff.
  • Maintain and develop strategic relationships with local sports stakeholders, leagues, and institutions, supporting rights acquisition and partnership opportunities.
  • Monitor audience metrics, local market trends, and digital engagement to inform regional and local execution priorities.
  • Support local budgeting and planning in alignment with LATAM operational guidelines.
  • Serve as local representative for brand and PR initiatives, ensuring consistent messaging and image alignment.

The Essentials

  • Experience in sports media, broadcasting, or streaming environments.
  • Knowledge of the local sports ecosystem, particularly soccer, with strong market relationships.
  • Ability to manage small teams and coordinate cross-functional work in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to execute regional strategies with autonomy, balancing hands-on operational work with strategic oversight.
  • Business judgment, problem-solving skills, and capacity to operate under pressure.
  • Native Spanish speaker required.
  • English proficiency required.

The Nice to Haves

  • Familiarity with OTT, streaming, and digital audience trends.
  • Experience working in multinational or matrixed organizations.
  • Existing network in sports, media, or entertainment sectors locally.
  • Experience with rights acquisition or licensing processes.
  • Experience in public representation or media relations.
