As an Engineering Manager on Aptive Environmental’s Engineering team, you will help drive the technical direction and delivery of our solutions, platform, and products. You’ll lead a cross-functional engineering team delivering critical systems that power Aptive’s platforms. Managers here are technical leaders: you’ll support the team’s ownership by removing roadblocks, shaping direction, and helping engineers grow. You’ll also work closely with senior engineers and the architecture team to guide design and provide coaching, stepping in when delivery needs extra support.

This is a full-time position that can be located remotely in the United States, but if you are located in Utah and able to work at our office in Provo, we consider that a plus!

Compensation: 160k-165k + 10% manager bonus

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure delivery of reliable, maintainable, and scalable software

  • Balance feature delivery with stability, technical debt, and code quality

  • Provide technical coaching and feedback through design discussions, reviews, and mentoring

  • Partner across architecture, engineering, and product to propose and implement strong design practices

  • Support engineers in growing their independence while ensuring commitments are met

  • Monitor and improve team performance metrics (velocity, quality, reliability, MTTR)

  • Drive consistency in development standards, testing practices, and code reviews

  • Communicate risks, dependencies, and progress to stakeholders and leadership

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, mentorship, and quality

  • Engineers on your team grow in scope, impact, and independence

  • Your technical guidance improves code quality and solutioning without blocking delivery

  • Stakeholders trust your team’s execution and your leadership

Qualifications: 

  • Senior proficiency in at least one modern language (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, PHP, C#, etc.)

  • PHP and React experience preferred, and/or willingness to work in PHP and React as part of our primary stack (React, Laravel, PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ)

  • 5+ years of backend and/or frontend development experience

  • 2+ years of technical leadership experience (Tech Lead, Manager, or higher)

  • Proven ability to balance people leadership with technical depth

  • Track record of guiding teams through delivery of complex systems or subsystems

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical audiences

  • Familiarity with AI-powered developer tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, etc.) preferred
