Job Description Summary

The Technical Leader – Product Definition Engineering (PDE) Specification and Requirements will provide critical technical leadership for Product Definition Engineering activities supporting new product introduction, new technology introduction, and design change programs. This role will focus on the development and governance of standardized design specifications, requirements, and documentation frameworks and is pivotal in closing strategic gaps in current PDE design standards by integrating feedback from manufacturing, fleet performance, and new technology projects. The successful candidate will drive the transformation of the PDE function by embedding AI-driven solutions and strengthening core competencies in GD&T, stack-up analysis, BOM standards, and manufacturing documentation.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Blade PDE Standards & Requirements Governance: Develop, own, and maintain standardized design specifications and requirements. Proactively close gaps in design standards, ensuring consistent application across blade development and manufacturing.
  • Proces Excellence : Drive the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital solutions to automate workflows, enhance documentation quality, and increase efficiency within the PDE team.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Work closely with other PDE Technical Leader and other engineering experts to harmonize design specifications with CAD/PDE processes, ensuring a robust "single source of truth."
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership for Product Definition Engineering across NPI, NTI, and design change programs. Lead technical problem-solving within PDE in close collaboration with blade engineering experts and execution teams.
  • Governance & Validation: Review and approve ECNs, ensuring all technical solutions are validated, manufacturable, and compliant with business standards.
  • Competency Development: Strengthen organizational competency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5), stack-up standards, mold/equipment input specifications, and BOM management.
  • Mentorship & Growth: Mentor and guide the PDE team and contingent workers. Drive the institutionalization of knowledge through best practices, lessons learned, and standardized work instructions.
  • Execution: Maintain hands-on involvement in critical PDE tasks, specifically supporting NTI programs and high-stakes technical deliverables.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing), Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in Product Definition Engineering, specifically within fiber-reinforced plastics or complex blade design.
  • Strong hands-on experience with CATIA (including composite design) and Teamcenter (PLM/BOM management).
  • Deep expertise in GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5) and mechanical tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Proven track record in driving technical transformation, process improvement, and the development of engineering standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions across cross-functional teams (Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to mentor junior staff and contingent workers.

Desired Characteristics

  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing-oriented product definition and composite manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in a production or factory environment, supporting prototype builds or 0-series production startup.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate fleet feedback and manufacturing data into actionable design requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead change management initiatives and drive the adoption of new methods and tools within an engineering organization.
