Annual Minimum - Maximum

$85,000.00 - $115,000.00

JOB SUMMARY

Our Forest Lawn, Long Beach is looking for a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee and coordinate activities of employees engaged in maintaining grounds and interment areas. The areas that are included but not limited to wall crypts, lawn crypts, niches, by performing the following duties:

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Management retains the discretion to add or change the essential duties and requirements at any time.
  • Direct workers engaged in ground maintenance activities, including but not limited to mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, and raking and disposing of leaves and refuse.  Able to operate mowers, rak-o-vac, trimmers, and other related equipment when needed.
  • Direct all interment activities, including but not limited to: committal of remains, maintains all tools and equipment in good working order.  Able to operate backhoe, dirt hauler, light trucks, and other related equipment when needed.
  • Supervise operation of maintenance and repair of tractors and backhoes, vehicles, and lawn care equipment.  Inspect all equipment and vehicles for possible defects. 
  • Assist with property development, including but not limited to soil preparation, locating sprinklers, landscaping, planting trees, shrubs, etc.
  • Direct workers assisting other departments as requested, including but not limited to moving furniture and unloading and storing supplies.
  • Requisition of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Interpret company policies for workers and enforce safety regulations.
  • Verify interments are ready for service time. 
  • Oversee the placement of memorial tablets.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems, and assist workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.  Maintain time and production records. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Directly supervises employees in Grounds/Interments.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employee; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • California Pesticide Applicator License
  • Must possess/be able to obtain the Site Supervisor for Recycled Water certification by the Los Angeles County.
  • Able to read and understand landscape plans and underground utility drawings.
  • Must have a good knowledge of the identification and use of landscape plants, chemicals, fertilizers, and landscape maintenance equipment.
  • Must understand principles of irrigation and irrigation systems and practices.
  • Must be able to identify plant materials commonly used in Southern California landscapes, as well as all plants in areas under their care. Common name recognition is sufficient.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of proper pruning techniques, be proficient in the many types of pruning and be able to effectively train other employees in same.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of proper planting procedures and requirements for all plants and trees under their care

DRUG TESTING POLICY

Prior to beginning employment, all job applicants who receive a job offer will be required to voluntarily submit to a drug screening test conducted by a laboratory designated by Forest Lawn. The drug screening method is a hair collection test that will detect the use of illegal drugs within the past 90 days. A positive drug test may result in the withdrawal of the job offer.
