Category Manager
ABB Electrification Procurement is a key function that delivers value to ABB by leveraging market knowledge, subject matter expertise, and business insights in the procurement of goods and services and the management of ABB Electrification’s third-party spend. Through collaboration with our external suppliers and internal business partners, the Indirect Materials & Services team of the Electrification Procurement organization helps write the future of safe, smart, and sustainable electrification.
As the Electrification EMEA Category Specialist Indirect Materials & Services (e.g. Temporary labor, Professional services, Information System, Materials, Facilities services), you are responsible for supporting and, where appropriate, leading the development of Category Strategies and executing a pipeline of sourcing initiatives and related negotiations in the EMEA region. Based on your deep subject matter expertise, you engage and partner with senior Business stakeholders and Business Procurement/Finance to deliver the overall Category performance and savings targets.
The objective of this position is to leverage the purchasing power of ABB on a regional level and to achieve the set of performance targets for Indirect Materials & Services.
Your responsibilities
- Stakeholder management: Understanding business priorities and challenges, building strong partnerships with stakeholders, and successfully engaging with key functions. Ability to act with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Working in close collaboration with the sites on the identification and realization of cost reduction opportunities and translating them into sourcing events.
- Category management: Supporting and, where appropriate, leading the development and implementation of short-, mid-, and long-term Category Strategies in alignment with Business.
- Sourcing:
- Leading and supporting sourcing initiatives, working closely with key stakeholders to implement regional category strategies.
- Running RFPs/RFQs/eAuctions in SAP Ariba, Apadua, Keelvar in a smooth way for Indirect Materials & Services projects.
- Contract management: Reviewing and driving contracts to completion independently – in partnership with suppliers and internal ABB business/legal.
- Supplier management: Ensuring a robust approach to supplier management (value creation / continuous improvement targets, reporting of supplier performance, innovation programs), building effective supplier relationships, verifying that the supply base/suppliers have the capability and capacity to meet current and future business requirements, managing supplier risks, and conducting regular business reviews.
- Digitalization & Data Analytics: Contributing to the advancement of digital capabilities within the Electrification Procurement & Logistics function by supporting the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of digital tools and processes. Supporting the digital transformation of the Electrification Procurement & Logistics department by identifying, prioritizing and executing digital initiatives that improve efficiency, visibility, and decision-making. Embedding Artificial Intelligence and digital best practices into daily Procurement activities, while standardizing workflows, documentation, and governance to ensure scalability and compliance. Collaborating with Procurement teams and training colleagues to drive adoption of digital tools, enhance digital capabilities, and continuously identify opportunities for innovation and automation.
- Sustainability & ESG: Integrating sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) criteria into category strategies and supplier selection, supporting ABB’s commitment to responsible sourcing.
- Change Management & Training: Acting as a change agent for new processes and digital tools, providing training and support to internal stakeholders to ensure successful adoption.
- Innovation Scouting: Identifying and promoting innovative solutions and suppliers that can deliver added value, efficiency, or sustainability improvements.
- Risk Management (Cyber & Supply Chain): Monitoring and mitigating supply chain and cyber risks, ensuring business continuity and compliance with ABB’s standards.
Qualifications for the role
- University degree, with business or engineering degree preferable.
- 5+ years of in-depth sourcing and/or category management experience or equivalent extensive experience working in the categories for which the role is intended to support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, project management skills.
- Proven analytical acumen and capability in negotiation and stakeholder management.
- Highly organized and strong result-orientation.
- Excellent contract management expertise.
- Experience with SAP Ariba including eAuctioning, Apadua, Keelvar, PowerBI, Microsoft Excel and PPT.
- Highly adept in using various Artificial Intelligence tools like ChatGPT for on-the-job activities and knowledgeable about Prompt Engineering tools.
- Passionate about Procurement Digitization, Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence, embrace lifelong learning and possess a innovative mindset.
- Proven experience of using A.I. tools like but not limited to ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity etc. in Procurement activities, i.e. stakeholder management, documents preparation, sourcing activities.
- Business level fluency in English.
