Position Summary:
The Legal Director, Global Travel will serve as the primary legal contact for WEX's Global Travel line of business, providing comprehensive commercial legal support. This role involves advising on complex commercial transactions, directly supporting the Global Travel commercial team and partnering closely with the Global Travel GM and the leadership team to achieve strategic initiatives and annual revenue goals. The role will positively contribute to the Legal Department strategy in the support of the implementation of the CLM for the Global Travel line of business.
Job Responsibilities
Global Travel Commercial Contracting - Time spent 60%
Lead the negotiation, drafting, and management of complex global travel commercial agreements, ensuring contract structures align with business objectives and comply with applicable laws and regulations across diverse jurisdictions.
Serve as the primary legal point of contact for the Global Travel sales organization by coordinating with regional legal partners to deliver streamlined, consistent, and timely support across all markets.
Build strong partnerships with and work closely alongside the Global Regulatory team to provide optimum support to the business as new territories and products are defined.
As a trusted advisor, provide strategic, solution-oriented commercial advice to internal stakeholders on commercial matters, balancing risk with business enablement to support growth and operational excellence.
Monitor evolving global trends affecting commercial contracting and translate insights into proactive guidance to mitigate risks and seize opportunities for market expansion.
Identify, assess, and manage legal issues and risks arising during drafting and/or negotiations with customers, partners and other third parties; escalate matters appropriately and coach team members through nuanced contract challenges in doing the same.
Support business development initiatives (including RFP responses, strategic deals, and business integration activities) by ensuring commercial terms and structures align with enterprise standards and long-term business goals.
CLM - Time spent 20%
Ensure the successful implementation, adoption, and ongoing optimization of the CLM tool for the Global Travel line of business, using data and workflow improvements to enhance contracting efficiency and consistency.
People & Culture - Time spent 20%
Lead, inspire, and develop direct report(s), fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment that encourages professional growth and strong business partnership.
Thoughtfully engage in all aspects of talent management (performance evaluations, career pathing, compensation planning, and goal alignment) to strengthen capability and engagement within the team.
Required Qualifications
Years of Experience: recommended 10 years of legal experience including significant exposure to global travel commercial contracts
Practising solicitor with current practicing certificate for England & Wales or equivalent in the local jurisdiction
LLB or equivalent qualifying degree with post graduate certificate
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; experience and comfort working with and advising business internal clients directly
Adept at navigating ambiguity and balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Team player who is proactive and business-practical and effectively engages with other members of the legal department and cross functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in the fintech, technology, or financial services industry is preferred
Experience supporting global or geographically dispersed teams.
Proven ability to manage and lead high-impact, cross-functional projects within a complex, global organization
Highly responsive with a service-oriented attitude
Ability to partner with and influence executives and stakeholders on strategic plans for WEX by anticipating future trends and risks and preparing the company to meet those challenges
