At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.
In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility, and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
The pRED-PS AI Incubator is a small, hands-on applied AI team connecting scientific needs with Roche’s broader AI, data and technology capabilities. We partner directly with scientists and operational teams to identify high-friction workflows, build and validate AI-enabled solutions, and support their transition into secure, sustainable use.
As a Forward Deployed AI Engineer, you will work at the intersection of science, product and engineering, embedding with teams across Pharmaceutical Sciences and pRED to redesign scientific workflows using modern AI capabilities.
Partner with scientists and operational teams to understand end-to-end workflows, pain points, decisions and opportunities for improvement.
Translate scientific needs into well-defined AI use cases, technical requirements, measurable outcomes and delivery plans.
Build working prototypes and minimum viable products in focused, cross-functional delivery cycles.
Develop AI-enabled applications, agents, retrieval systems, data pipelines, workflow integrations and user-friendly interfaces.
Apply LLMs, RAG, multimodal AI, conventional machine learning and automation where they create meaningful scientific value.
Evaluate solutions for reliability, traceability, usability, scientific relevance, adoption and workflow impact.
Collaborate with Roche partners to transition successful prototypes into secure, compliant and reusable solutions.
You are a practical and curious builder who thrives in ambiguous environments and enjoys working closely with end users:
You hold a degree in computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, medical informatics, computational science or a related field, or have equivalent practical experience.
You bring approximately four or more years of experience in software, data, AI, technical product delivery or technology-enabled workflow transformation.
You have strong hands-on programming skills, particularly in Python, and experience with modern software-development practices.
You have practical experience building solutions using LLMs, RAG, AI agents, prompt or context engineering, model evaluation or related generative AI approaches.
You are comfortable working with APIs, databases, data pipelines, version control, automated testing and enterprise technology environments.
You can turn loosely defined user needs into working prototypes and define a credible path toward operational deployment.
You communicate clearly across technical and scientific audiences and balance speed, quality, risk and user value.
Experience in pharmaceutical R&D, life sciences, healthcare or another regulated environment, as well as full-stack development, cloud, MLOps, validation or scientific workflow experience, would be an advantage.
At Roche, we aim high to deliver life-changing healthcare solutions. If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact on patients and healthcare systems worldwide, this is the place for you.
A healthier future drives us to innovate. Together, more than 100’000 employees across the globe are dedicated to advance science, ensuring everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Our efforts result in more than 26 million people treated with our medicines and over 30 billion tests conducted using our Diagnostics products. We empower each other to explore new possibilities, foster creativity, and keep our ambitions high, so we can deliver life-changing healthcare solutions that make a global impact.
Let’s build a healthier future, together.
