We're looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to take ownership of financial governance and accounting operations for VML and WPP Media entities in Greece. This is a high-impact role where you'll shape financial integrity, drive compliance excellence, and lead a talented team through a period of growth and transformation.

You'll be the trusted voice on all accounting matters — partnering directly with the local Group FD and senior leadership to inform business decisions, navigate complex regulatory requirements, and continuously improve how we work. If you thrive on combining technical rigor with strategic thinking, and you're energized by developing people while delivering results, this role offers genuine influence and visibility.

What you'll own:

  • Financial governance and compliance: You'll ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance across all financial reporting — from month-end and year-end close processes to statutory accounts and external audits. You'll be the go-to expert on Greek accounting standards, US GAAP, SOX policies, VAT, and corporate tax. You'll also lead relationships with external auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies, ensuring the organization is always audit-ready and fully compliant.
  • Strategic financial operations: You'll oversee the full spectrum of accounting operations: accounts payable and receivable, treasury and banking relationships, general ledger, payroll accounting, fixed assets, revenue and expenditure analysis, and both internal and external reporting. You'll assess current processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvements that increase accuracy, speed, and transparency.
  • Team leadership and development: You'll lead and develop a team of accounting professionals, setting clear goals, managing performance, and creating opportunities for growth. You'll foster a culture of high performance, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning — ensuring your team has the skills and confidence to excel in a fast-paced, high-standards environment.
  • Business partnership and insight: You'll work closely with HR/Payroll, Finance Controllers, and entity leads to resolve issues, support decision-making, and provide ad-hoc analysis. You'll also champion innovation — supporting initiatives around reporting automation and the use of AI tools in accounting — and share knowledge and best practices across the organization.

What you'll bring:

Experience and credentials

  • 8+ years of professional experience managing accounting departments, ideally as an Accounting Manager, Chief Accountant, or in a Big 4 firm, leading accounting teams
  • Higher education in Accounting or Finance
  • A' class signature rights
  • Post-master qualification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is a plus
  • A master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration is an advantage

Technical expertise

  • Deep knowledge of Greek and international accounting principles, VAT, and corporate tax law
  • Strong hands-on experience with month-end closing, balance sheet control, and statutory reporting
  • Solid understanding of internal controls, SOX, and governance frameworks
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software (knowledge of StepUp is a plus)

Leadership and mindset

  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams
  • Excellent analytical skills with a structured, detail-oriented approach
  • Independent, resilient, and comfortable taking ownership in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive, adaptable, and hands-on — always looking for ways to improve processes and controls
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset

Communication

  • Excellent working proficiency in Greek and English to support statutory requirements and communication with local and global stakeholders

What we offer

  • Meaningful impact: This is not a back-office role. You'll have end-to-end responsibility for accounting governance and direct access to senior leadership. Your work will inform key business decisions and shape how the Greek organization operates financially.
  • Professional growth: You'll have opportunities for career development supported by a culture that values learning, innovation, and performance.
  • Competitive package: A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package aligned with senior-level positions in the Greek market, designed to support your well-being and long-term professional development.
  • A culture of collaboration and accountability: You'll work in a professional, performance-driven environment characterized by high standards, clear accountability, and strong collaboration. You'll be surrounded by talented people who care about doing great work — and who will challenge and support you in equal measure.
