Job Title: Lead Veterinary Nurse Frome

Salary: £ 31000

Location: Garston Veterinary Group, Frome

Job Type: Permanent, full-time

Hours: Varying shifts from 7.30 to 8pm, Weekends, OOH and BH cover will be required on a rotational basis. Weekend work is included within your working week so you will have time off either prior or post weekend.

Garston Veterinary Group are looking for a Lead Nurse to join our fantastic team.

The lead Nurse role is key to the business, ability to provide a high level of clinical standards.

The lead nurse will ensure that the patients are managed as effectively as possible from a nursing perspective to support the profitability and further growth of the practice. Working enthusiastically with your team you will help maintain a happy, efficient working environment whilst providing outstanding patient and client care.

                You will be responsible for Frome nursing team and line manage direct reports.  

Duties will also include, but are not limited to:
 

  • Under the direction of the Group and Clinical Nurse Managers and with the assistance of other Lead nurses ensure that weekly rotas, duty rotas and holidays for nursing staff are organised and in place.
  • Liaise with the CNM and other lead Nurses in arranging sickness and holiday cover at all surgeries.
  • Arrange and conduct, as required by the GNM, nurse meetings, both clinical and non-clinical.
  • Supervision of Veterinary Nurse training.    
  • Assist with performance appraisals and probationary interviews for nursing staff, together with the Nursing manager and / or the Human Resources (HR) Manager.
  • Supervise the work of a team of VNs and student veterinary nurses.
  •  Oversee running of daily procedures including ops, inpatients and consults.
  •   Ensure all nursing staff are undertaking their daily/ weekly and monthly responsibilities.
  •   Making sure nursing protocols are ad heard too.
  •   Working with the GNM and CNM to implement any new protocols to the nursing team.
  • Dealing with staff issues which effect the running of the day and reporting any further issues to the CNM.

  • Be responsible for the organisation of stock control, ordering and rotation
  • With the assistance of the Nurse Manager encourage good client contact by the planning, organisation and provision of nurse clinics, puppy parties and other interactive situations
  • Attend continuing professional development courses.
