Sign-On Bonus:

A $500 sign-on bonus will be paid at the end of 6 months of employment in this position. Eligibility for this one-time, non-base building bonus is reserved for employees who are new to the Colorado state personnel system.

This position is scheduled for night shifts (8:00 pm – 6:00 am) and is eligible for shift differential pay, meaning the pay is an additional 14% per hour (up to $19.42 per hour) for weeknights and 20% more per hour (up to $20.45 per hour) for weekends.

Salary Note: Although the full salary range for this position is provided, appointments are typically made at or near the range minimum.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

Western Colorado University Security Services provides a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors on Western's campus. This is accomplished through a community-friendly approach, visibility of security personnel, 24-hour accessibility, roving patrols, and cooperation with all local emergency agencies.  
 

JOB DUTIES

  • Patrol campus grounds by vehicle or on foot to protect state and personal property
  • Walk through and patrol buildings to identify safety hazards and verify safe conditions
  • Respond to parking and traffic violations on campus; patrol parking lots to ensure safety of persons and vehicles
  • Document incidents that occur and actions taken during shift
  • As needed, notify local law enforcement of incidents and participate with law enforcement during investigation of criminal activity
  • Participate in campus events to ensure safety while conducting crowd and traffic control
  • Assist with campus/building/facility maintenance; contact appropriate personnel when mechanical or physical problems are discovered/identified during shift; document work orders submitted or actions taken for repairs
  • In the event of a major emergency, integrate into an incident command structure and follow the emergency operations plan
