THE OPORTUNITY

The position of DevOps Software Engineer is within our Cardiometabolic and Informatics (CMI) business unit of the Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (ARDx) Division.  It is a position for our Charlottesville, VA, Lake Forest, IL, or Remote locations, working with our DevOps and Scrum teams based in the Charlottesville office, UK personnel, and other remote employees.

The DevOps Software Engineering role will drive the overall design and implementation of software and IT solutions, as part of a diverse DevOps team; the individual must demonstrate strong knowledge of IT infrastructure and software development.

The DevOps Software Engineer is responsible for leading the continual evolution of our cloud services, and automation of our development processes.  The individual should have solid understanding of software development, cloud technology, automated deployment of infrastructure, configuration management, and cybersecurity.

The DevOps Software Engineer role requires substantial software development experience, excellent communication and facilitation skills, and the ability to closely collaborate with our Development Teams for the successful integration of software and infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive the design, development, and deployment of high availability systems in our Microsoft Azure cloud environment.

  • Lead the design and develop of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, C#, PowerShell, and similar technologies.

  • Lead the design and development of container-based application deployments using Kubernetes and similar technologies.

  • Establish operational strategy and procedures for management of our cloud services, such as disaster recovery, monitoring, and maintenance.

  • Provide ongoing management, administration, monitoring, and support of deployed cloud environments; provide after-hours escalated support as necessary.

  • Generate any necessary project documentation such as, requirements, design documents, test documents, specifications, white papers, training guides, installation guides.

  • Participate in product cybersecurity assessments and evaluations.

  • Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, using tools like Azure DevOps Server and Jenkins.

  • Drive the adoption of new tooling or technologies to improve the efficiency of our product development process and lifecycle management.

  • Provide administration and maintenance of development systems such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and Octopus.

  • Contribute to the improvement and maintenance of our Quality Management System procedures.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior DevOps team members and software development team members.

  • Perform evaluation and qualification of third party suppliers and systems.

  • Serve as liaison with our corporate IT department.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Preferred education is a Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), or related degree.

  • Minimum education is an Associate degree plus 10 years of work experience in similar field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in software development or IT services.

  • Expertise in cloud environments, technologies, and infrastructures such as Azure, Kubernetes, PaaS, DBaaS

  • Experience with Terraform.

  • Experience with C# or similar object oriented language.

  • Familiarity with microservice architectures and RESTful API services

  • Experience in development of Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Experience in IT infrastructure, and high availability systems administration.

  • Ability to analyze information and communicate with clarity and effectiveness.

  • Experience with management and administration of a data center

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Experience with infrastructure configuration management tools, such as System Center, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar.

  • Software Development Lifecycle experience.

  • Use of Git source/version control repository

  • Use of Microsoft Azure DevOps Server pipelines

  • Experience with cybersecurity and secure-by-design methodologies

The base pay for this position is

$95,000.00 – $190,000.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
