Global Trade Compliance Manager

Job Summary
 

Leads the import/export team responsible for managing global shipments of robotics hardware, software, and components, ensuring strict compliance with U.S. and international trade regulations. Provides strategic and operational direction to deliver timely, compliant, and cost-effective global distribution. Partners with cross-functional leaders in engineering, manufacturing, legal, and operations to manage complex logistics challenges and develop best-in-class trade compliance processes. Guides the professional development of the import/export team, drives process improvements, and supports organizational strategies related to global trade for advanced robotics technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the import/export team, setting priorities, assigning workloads, and ensuring timely, compliant execution of global shipments.
     

  • Develop and oversee operational processes for licensing, product classification (HTS, ECCN), and documentation related to robotics products, including dual-use technologies.
     

  • Establish and monitor performance metrics for compliance, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery of shipments.
     

  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, legal, and finance to ensure accurate product classification and compliance with evolving trade regulations (e.g., EAR, ITAR, Wassenaar).
     

  • Manage relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, and regulatory agencies, ensuring high service levels and compliance.
     

  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance team expertise in trade compliance and robotics-specific regulations.
     

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, and increase compliance efficiency.
     

  • Participate in budget planning for import/export operations, managing cost-effective logistics strategies.
     

  • Escalate and resolve complex regulatory or operational issues, including shipment delays or compliance breaches.
     

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for audits and regulatory inquiries, coordinating with legal and compliance teams.

  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. and international trade compliance regulations (ITAR, EAR, OFAC, Wassenaar) and their application to robotics technologies.

    • Additional EU trade compliance experience preferred.
       

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of compliance professionals, fostering high performance and engagement.
     

  • Strong understanding of product classification, licensing, and documentation requirements for controlled technologies.
     

  • Proficiency in logistics software and enterprise trade compliance platforms (e.g., SAP GTS, Oracle GTM).
     

  • Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills for addressing complex compliance and logistics challenges.
     

  • Strong project management and organizational skills for balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
     

Typical Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field; advanced education or professional certifications preferred.
     

  • Typically 8+ years of experience in import/export, trade compliance, or logistics, including 3+ years in a supervisory or team leadership role. Experience in robotics, aerospace, or technology manufacturing is preferred.
     

  • Advanced trade compliance certifications (e.g., CCS, CES, CTCS) strongly preferred.
     

The pay range for this position is between $134,399 to $184,799 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
