Position Summary
The Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.
We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 11.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world’s highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.
Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.
Responsible for floor cleaning and maintenance throughout campus. Will be required to work with cleaning chemicals and will need to be able to understand the safety data sheets for those chemicals. Responsible for hard surfaces, carpet, and wood floors, scheduled by supervisor in public areas and as requested by customers utilizing commercial equipment.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Canvas areas of responsibility daily.
- Assesses for thoroughness and quality of floors on campus.
- Provides floor maintenance services to campus.
- Performs daily cleaning services for customers and public areas, as well as floor care as assigned.
- Performs major floor maintenance such as stripping, refinishing, scrubbing, and top coating and burnishing.
- Performs major floor maintenance such as carpet extraction, spotting, carpet bonneting, and large area vacuuming.
- Utilizes vacuum cleaners, brushes, cleaning chemicals, floor finish, and other hard surface floor and carpet cleaning materials.
- Works with cleaning chemicals and understands safety data sheets for those chemicals.
- Performs all floor tech procedures, from proper set-up to proper cleanup of the work site and all equipment used for the hard surface or carpet cleaning project.
Working Conditions
Job Location
- 3rd shift schedule is typically Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM.
- May be required to work weekends or modified hours.
Physical Effort
- Exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals, heavy lifting and prolonged standing, walking, kneeling, crouching and bending.
- Will be required to frequently work in a bent over position often on hands and knees in the process of preparing floors for cleaning.
- Requires a great deal of walking within assigned areas, includes going outside from one building to another.

Salary Range
$17.03 - $24.61 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
