Job Description

The Meetings & Events Specialist – Channel Events & Trade Shows plays a key role within Thermo Fisher Scientific's Strategic Meeting Management team, leading the planning and execution of our participation at channel meetings, trade shows, and industry conferences.

This position serves as the project manager responsible for coordinating participation across multiple businesses, divisions, and functional teams. Working closely with business stakeholders, marketing teams, suppliers, and event agencies, the role ensures our presence at strategic events is aligned, efficient, and delivers value to participating businesses.

Primary responsibilities include managing Thermo Fisher participation at channel partner meetings hosted by our distribution businesses, as well as selected large-scale trade shows and conferences that require centralized planning and cross-business coordination.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA. Relocation assistance is NOT provided.

What Will You Do?

Lead Channel Meetings, Trade Shows & Conference Planning

  • Serve as the project manager for Thermo Fisher participation at internal channel partner meetings and commercial events.  (Self-manufacturing businesses participating in Customer Channel Group events)
  • Develop project plans, timelines, budgets, communication plans, and planning schedules.
  • Coordinate supplier showcases, exhibit spaces, meeting rooms, sponsorships, demonstrations, and business presentations.
  • Facilitate planning meetings and drive alignment across participating businesses and stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between participating businesses, event organizers, exhibit partners, and external suppliers.
  • Manage all project deliverables from planning through onsite execution and post-event evaluation.

Drive Cross-Business Collaboration

  • Partner with commercial, marketing, and business leadership teams to understand objectives and participation requirements.
  • Coordinate multiple Thermo Fisher businesses participating within a shared event footprint.
  • Balance business priorities while maintaining a consistent and professional company presence.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and communication pathways among stakeholders.
  • Lead issue resolution and decision-making throughout the planning process.

Manage Event Execution & Vendor Partnerships

  • Coordinate exhibit planning, booth requirements, sponsorship deliverables, meeting space management, and onsite logistics.
  • Partner with exhibit houses, production agencies, venues, and suppliers to ensure successful execution.
  • Manage contracts, project timelines, shipping schedules, material handling, and event assets.
  • Travel to selected events to oversee setup, execution, and dismantle activities.
  • Provide onsite leadership, troubleshoot challenges, and support participating teams throughout the event.

Financial Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and manage event budgets, forecasts, and reconciliations.
  • Track participation costs and support financial reporting activities.
  • Maintain project documentation and planning records.
  • Conduct post-event reviews and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain planning tools, templates, and best practices for channel meetings and trade shows.

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in event management, trade show management, exhibit marketing, conference planning, or related disciplines.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
  • Experience working directly with senior leaders, commercial teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated budget management and financial reconciliation experience.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25–35%, including onsite event support and occasional weekend work.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization.
