Senior Vice President, Strategy and Communications –Tokyo

The Opportunity

As Teneo continues to grow its operations in Asia-Pacific, we are looking for a high calibre candidate to join our dynamic and professional Strategy and Communications team as a Senior Vice President based in the firm's Tokyo office.

Teneo’s Strategy and Communications team provides integrated communications counsel to business leaders and CEOs. You will support a wide range of activity to deliver the firm’s core capabilities which include communications strategy, transaction communications, investor relations, media relations, crisis management, ESG advisory, market and industry research, and government relations. As a Senior Vice President, you will lead client accounts and be a primary contact for clients, responsible for delivering the highest quality service. You will drive activity across multiple account teams, provide regular insights and analysis, and support clients’ reputational and strategic goals.

Although this role is to primarily support our publicly listed corporate clients with financial communications and investor relations, we actively encourage our people to grow and develop their advisory skills across all our disciplines, including financial and M&A, digital, creative campaigning and corporate communications, leadership coaching, sustainability, strategy and research, issues and crisis management to solve complex business issues for our clients.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Vice President with the Strategy and Communications team, your role will include:

• Client Leadership & Strategic Advisory - Serve as a trusted advisor to multinational clients on all aspects of corporate reputation, campaigning, and strategic communications. Lead the development and deployment of integrated communications strategies, leveraging research, insights, and Teneo’s global resources. Provide expert counsel on reputation management, stakeholder engagement, and proactive storytelling as well as advise clients on issues management and crisis communications.
• Providing investor and capital markets expertise – Guide clients in their engagement with buy and sell-side stakeholders, relevant stock exchange(s) and institutional, retail and governmental shareholders.
• Special situations – Support critical workstreams such as government affairs, crisis management, ESG, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), restructurings and other special situations.
• Account Management – Lead on account delivery, managing a team of experts to deliver high quality client servicing and acting as the main point person with the client. Actively coach and mentor junior team members.
• Client Management – Build and maintain strong relationships with the client, seeking growth opportunities where possible. Proactively manage the client and work to take advantage of opportunities/ resolve issues as needed.
• Business Development – Actively build a network of new client/ prospect relationships, working on new business opportunities including leading proposals and participating in client pitch meetings. Demonstrate commercial acumen in costing and managing the delivery or projects. Develops understanding and fluency across Teneo’s wide breadth of service offerings.
• Leadership – Take responsibility for managing junior colleagues, supporting their performance reviews and career growth within the firm. Supporting the smooth running of client servicing operations.

Furthermore, you will be expected to:

• Build strong relationships, fostering long-term partnerships and seeking organic growth opportunities through new business proposal development;
• Create advisory notes for client leadership, addressing media narratives, geopolitical risks, and reputational issues, while monitoring media coverage for clients and competitors;
• Provide support and insight to your client teams, proactively highlighting opportunities, and potential areas of concern;
• Build a strong network of effective relationships internally and externally;
• Proactively seek formal and informal learning and development opportunities to support your professional growth and contribute to the sharing of learnings across the wider team

Basic Qualifications

• 10-15 years of experience in corporate or financial communications, or alternatively in roles related to investor relations, corporate planning, compliance, investment banking, strategic advisory roles, with at least five years of working experience within a Japanese corporate.
• Strong track record of galvanizing high stakes relationships with both Japanese and international media as well as strong working knowledge of Japanese media
• Native fluency in Japanese and excellent Japanese writing and presentation skills are essential, as well as business-level fluency in English.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, including logical thinking, are essential.
• Ability to take personal responsibility for quality, deliver within deadlines, and perform under pressure with close attention to detail.
• Bachelor’s degree ideally in business, journalism, communications, public policy, finance or economics. A postgraduate degree is an advantage.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

• Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to translate complexity into compelling narratives.
• Proven track record in managing complex briefs and delivering high-quality client service.
• Expertise in client servicing and possessing a project management mindset
• Demonstrated and nuanced understanding of the Japan macroeconomic landscape.
• Domain expertise in financial services and technical industries including areas such as private equity, investment management and allocation would be an advantage
• Leadership Skills: strong management and organisational skills with the ability to develop and execute multiplatform strategies for clients while working with the client and account teams
• Executive Presence: gravitas, confidence, ability to present to a CEO (C-Suite leadership team)

職務内容：戦略・コミュニケーション部門のシニア・ヴァイス・プレジデントとして、主に以下の業務を担当していただきます。

• クライアント・リーダーシップおよび戦略的アドバイザリー　

クライアントに対し、企業レピュテーション、キャンペーンおよび戦略的コミュニケーションの領域について助言を行います。リサーチ、インサイトおよび当社のグローバル・リソースを活用し、統合的なコミュニケーション戦略の策定および実行を主導します。また、レピュテーション管理、ステークホルダー・エンゲージメント、ストーリー構築に関する専門的助言を提供するとともに、課題管理および危機コミュニケーションについてクライアントに助言を提供します。

• 投資家および資本市場に関する専門性の提供　

クライアントのステークホルダー、資本市場ならびに投資家および省庁等とのコミュニケーションにおける助言および支援を提供します。

• スペシャル・シチュエーション　

政府対応、危機管理、ESG、M&A、事業再編その他の特殊な状況での対応を支援します。

• アカウント・マネジメント　

チームを管理して高品質なクライアント・サービスを提供するとともに、クライアントに対する主たる窓口を務めます。また、ジュニア・スタッフに対するコーチングおよびメンタリングを積極的に行います。

• クライアントマネジメント　

クライアントとの強固な関係を構築・維持し、ビジネスの成長機会を模索します。必要に応じ課題の解決に取り組みます。

• 事業開発　

新規クライアントおよび見込み顧客との関係構築を積極的に進め、提案の主導やクライアントとのミーティングへの参加を含む新規事業機会に取り組みます。案件の費用設計およびプロジェクト遂行管理を担います。また、当社が提供する幅広いサービスについて理解を深め、的確に説明・活用できる能力を高めます。

• リーダーシップ　

ジュニア・スタッフを監督し、社内における業績評価および成長を支援します。また、クライアント業務が円滑に運営されるよう支援します。

また、以下の役割も期待されます。

• クライアントと強固な関係を構築し、長期的なパートナーシップを育成するとともに、新規提案を通じて既存クライアントとの関係を深耕すること。
• メディア論調、地政学リスクおよびレピュテーション上の課題について、クライアント向け意見書を作成するとともに、クライアントおよびクライアントの競合他社に関する報道をモニタリングすること。
• クライアント・チームを主導し、ビジネス機会や潜在的懸念事項を主体的に指摘し対応すること。
• 社内外において、有効かつ強固な関係性のネットワークを構築すること。

必須要件

• コーポレート又は金融コミュニケーション分野における10～15年の経験、又はインベスター・リレーションズ、経営企画、コンプライアンス、投資銀行業務、戦略的アドバイザリーに関連する職務経験を有すること。そのうち少なくとも5年は、日本企業における実務経験であること。
• 日本および国際メディアとの重要な関係を構築・活性化してきた実績を有し、日本のメディアに関する実務上の十分な知見を有すること。
• 優れた日本語文章作成能力およびプレゼンテーション能力を有すること。日本語を母語水準で使いこなせることは必須であり、併せて英語についてもビジネス・レベルの堪能さが求められます。
• 論理的思考を含む、優れた数的処理能力および分析能力を有すること。
• 提出物の品質について責任を持ち、期限を遵守し、細部に十分な注意を払いながら、プレッシャーの下でも成果を出せること。
• ビジネス、ジャーナリズム、コミュニケーション、公共政策、金融又は経済分野の学士号を有することが望ましい。大学院修了資格があれば尚可。
• PowerPointおよびExcelを含む、Microsoft Officeの高度なスキルを有すること。
