Job Summary

Synechron is seeking a highly experienced Senior Ab‑Initio Developer to lead the design, development, and support of enterprise data integration solutions. This role requires deep hands-on expertise with Ab‑Initio tools, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. You will be responsible for delivering end-to-end ETL solutions in a highly regulated environment, such as banking or financial services, ensuring high data quality, performance, and compliance. Your contributions will enhance Synechron’s ability to execute complex data projects efficiently, supporting strategic business initiatives.


Software Requirements

Required:

  • Extensive experience with Ab‑Initio (GDE, COG, Metadata Hub/EME, and Parallelism/Partitioning) (7+ years)

  • Strong proficiency in Ab‑Initio GDE (Graphical Development Environment) and Co>Operating System

  • Expertise in metadata management using Metadata Hub (EME)

  • Deep understanding of parallel processing, partitioning, and performance tuning in Ab‑Initio workflows

  • Working knowledge of SQL and data analysis capabilities

  • Experience with ETL methodologies, data warehousing, and data integration in regulated environments

  • Familiarity with SDLC, Agile practices, and release/change management processes


Preferred:

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms or migration projects

  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell scripting) for automation tasks

  • Exposure to enterprise data governance and compliance standards


Overall Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Ab‑Initio ETL applications supporting large-scale data integration

  • Build and optimize batch and real-time data pipelines for high-throughput data processing

  • Translate complex business needs into efficient, robust, and fault-tolerant workflows

  • Perform performance tuning, debugging, and tuning of Ab‑Initio graphs and components

  • Validate data quality, carry out reconciliation, and ensure adherence to data governance standards

  • Collaborate with business analysts, data architects, QA, and operations teams to deliver integrated data solutions

  • Conduct code reviews, document workflows, and enforce best practices for scalable ETL design

  • Provide production support, conduct root cause analysis, and resolve technical issues promptly

  • Maintain technical documentation, data lineage, and metadata repositories

  • Stay current with emerging trends, tools, and regulatory requirements impacting data integration


Technical Skills (By Category)

Programming Languages (Essential):

  • Ab‑Initio Graphs (GDE), Shell scripting, with knowledge of SQL for data validation


Preferred:

  • Python or Java for automation and integration tasks


Data Management & Integration:

  • Ab‑Initio tools: GDE, COG, Metadata Hub (EME)

  • ETL design, batch processing, real-time data pipelines

  • Data reconciliation, data quality, and metadata management


Databases & Platforms:

  • Oracle, SQL Server, or equivalent relational databases

  • Knowledge of cloud data platforms and storage solutions (preferred)


Tools & Infrastructure:

  • Version control: Git or equivalent

  • Automation tools: Jenkins, or other CI/CD platforms

  • Monitoring and profiling: JFR, JMC, Prometheus, Grafana (preferred)


Standards & Protocols:

  • Enterprise data governance, privacy, and compliance standards

  • Industry regulations such as Basel, BCBS, or other financial standards (preferred)


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 7+ years experience leading Ab‑Initio development within large-scale, enterprise environments

  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting ETL workflows in financial or regulated industries

  • Strong understanding of data quality, reconciliation, and metadata management strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and optimize workflows

  • Experience working in Agile teams, with emphasis on collaborative and iterative delivery

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Develop and maintain complex Ab‑Initio workflows for batch and streaming data

  • Conduct performance profiling, optimize graph design, and implement tuning strategies

  • Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents affecting data pipelines

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to clarify data requirements and translate them into technical solutions

  • Review code, conduct design workshops, and contribute to technical standards

  • Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Document workflows, data lineage, and metadata for compliance and operational purposes

  • Support migration or upgrade projects, and ensure system stability and security

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related fields

  • 7+ years of hands-on Ab‑Initio development experience in enterprise environments

  • Proven track record of building and supporting large-scale, highly available data pipelines in a regulated environment

  • Industry certification or formal training in Ab‑Initio (preferred)
