Job Description:

***Please note this is a 6-month contract opportunity***

About the role:

The Project Manager will provide management of complex, multi-stream initiatives combining multiple types of delivery methodologies including Agile, waterfall, and hybrid. The individual will have a demonstrated track record of working effectively within a shared services environment (matrix model), have practical hands-on experience leading a variety of initiatives spanning multiple stakeholders, teams and lines of businesses and has strong relationship management skill. The Project Manager will work closely with Product Owners, other Project Managers, Scrum Leads, and Business and IT leaders and will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of the program objectives and outcomes. 

The successful candidate will be an adaptable, pragmatic problem solver who is able to challenge traditional ways of working. This individual should express strong leadership skills and have the ability to manage complex strategic and operational initiatives.

What will you do?

  • Responsible for managing medium to large scaled projects involving billing, collections, advisor contracting, licensing and compensations services.
  • Develops and manages processes (technical and business) to ensure plans are in place to meet business requirements in a cost-efficient manner and within specific targets.
  • Challenges the status quo and looks for automation opportunities.
  • Manages project teams, defines roles and responsibilities, sets performance objectives and standards, ensures proper coaching and training, monitors and evaluate performance.
  • Encourages an agile mindset amongst project team members
  • Anticipates, manages and mitigate project risks.
  • Manages project resources and prioritize use of resources accordingly.
  • Reviews plans and progress of different work groups to ensure work is coordinated and continues to meet overall project objectives.
  • Ensures project issues are raised and resolved at the appropriate levels. Keeps project team informed of the overall project status.
  • Manages business requirements by coordinating with business users to help assess feasibility and establish time and effort.
  • Directs the analysis and provides expert design advice so that the system solution satisfies management and business requirements.
  • Perform project reviews with team to ensure quality systems are develop/maintained through the use of established techniques and adherence to process standards.
  • Manages production systems by ensuring appropriate resources are allocated to handle production problems and ad-hoc requirements.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 3+ years of Project Management experience
  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Ability to straddle between Agile and Waterfall Methodologies.
  • Experience leading large, complex operational projects.
  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution and people management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on relationship management and team building.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity effectively and help project team members work with ambiguity.
  • Effectively and concisely communicate project and technical information to provide comprehensive, concise recommendations to management.
  • Ability to influence and challenge the status quo.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong understanding of agile project management principles and practices coupled with working experience as a Scrum Master or Service Delivery Manager an asset.
  • PROSCI designation is an asset.
  • Kanban Management Professional (KMP) I and KMP II certification an asset.
  • Understanding of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
