Description:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Risk, the Risk and Compliance Officer will play a vital role in implementing and managing risk and compliance activities and frameworks across PNG and the Pacific Region for Marsh. Key responsibilities include incident and issue management, complaints handling, control testing, and quality assurance. 

This position is essential in identifying risks arising from business operations and initiatives. Success in this role requires building a deep understanding of the business, fostering strong engagement with key internal and external stakeholders, and leveraging insights drawn from risk data.     

This position is based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.


We will count on you to:

  • Undertake control testing as required, in alignment with the Controls Assurance Standard.
  • Ensure that peer reviews of files are completed as per the Global QA Framework and regional process.
  • Liaise with the regulator and assist the business to implement any processes required for adherence to new regulations.
  • Execute risk and compliance activities outlined in the Regional Line 1 risk work plan.
  • Support the Line 1 Risk Team in operationalizing the Marsh Pacific Risk Management Framework, including facilitating risk management forums, conducting risk profiling, and preparing risk reports for the Executive and relevant Boards and Committees.
  • Help maintain and enhance the maturity of the business’s risk and compliance framework (policies, procedures, tools) in alignment with evolving regulatory requirements, internal standards, and industry best practices.
  • Assist in managing breaches and incidents, ensuring timely resolution, improvements to the control environment, and thorough compliance assessments.
  • Support the maintenance and adherence to appropriate controls and procedures in PNG through proactive control testing.


What you need to have:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a risk, governance, regulatory compliance, or legal role, preferably within the insurance and/or broking sector.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of the risk and compliance landscape specific to PNG.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to communicate complex issues in a commercially practical manner.
  • Capability to make sound recommendations based on analysis and findings when reporting to various committees.
  • Knowledge of industry codes of practice (e.g., NIBA, GICOP) is desirable, as Australian codes are commonly followed in PNG.
