Reporting to the Manager of Tax, the Senior Tax Accountant is a member of the Finance Department and is primarily responsible for overall sales & use tax administration and compliance.   This role partners with tech to facilitate sales tax system updates, assists in the implementation and execution of sales tax holidays, and serves as the customer service liaison for customer sales tax questions that need addressed.   This role will be part of a collaborative, team-oriented environment whose focus is on development and career fulfillment of its teammates.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with construction, marketing, non-merchandise procurement teams, and other departments to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance. Support Manager of Tax in reviewing use tax accruals to ensure appropriate amount of use tax is being remitted to tax authorities.
  • Manage and oversee the timely and accurate filing of sales and use tax returns. This includes coordination with external service providers, oversight of internal processes and reviewing account recons to ensure compliance on all sales tax related processes and procedures.
  • Interface and collaborate with our sales tax product team and point of sale teams to troubleshoot and resolve tax calculation inquiries and maintain accurate system configurations in Vertex and PMMS.    Oversee SOX compliance for sales tax rates to ensure tax rates are correctly assigned in all tax systems. Effectively resolve internal and external customer’s sales and use tax related issues, including oversight of our sales tax exemption processes for all stores and customers using CertifyTax.  Research, analyze & document tax issues, recommendations & conclusions.
  • Monitor state and local sales tax statutory changes staying informed about changes in tax legislation, industry trends, and best practices. Incorporate changes into all transaction systems through testing and troubleshooting to ensure appropriate sales/use tax amount is being reported.
  • Assist with the review of personal property tax return filings, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax regulations and deadlines.
  •  Support the Manager of Tax in management of indirect tax audits including preparation of necessary documentation, maintaining comprehensive tax records, responding timely to audit requests, and reviewing and updating tax documentation and procedures regularly.
  • Manage and develop team members including serving as supervisor to the sales tax accountant role. Engage in training and development related to both technical tax and leadership skills, effectively communicating concepts, with the ability to customize the level of detail based on the audience receiving the information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years experience
