Lumentum Switzerland AG is a leading design centre of ultrafast pico- and femtosecond laser systems featuring excellent performance and long-term opto-mechanical stability. We seek a Laser Process Development Engineer to work in a fast-paced, international, development environment. You will become a part of a young, ambitious and highly motivated team based in Zurich, Switzerland and take over building ultrafast lasers.

As a Laser Process development Engineer you will take on challenges in areas that include:

  • Product development in close collaboration with the Optical, Electrical, Mechanical, Automation and Manufacturing Engineering Teams
  • Develop manufacturing processes for time effectiveness and quality
  • Assembly, optimization, and testing of laser prototypes using robot systems
  • Verification and improvement of optical subassemblies, toolings and processes
  • Assemble optical parts with UV curable epoxy
  • Execute continuous improvement methods like FMEA, SDR, A3 and 3P
  • Drive process improvements and cycle time reduction
  • Lead product transfer to the Manufacturing Team in Thailand (i.e., training engineers and technicians, troubleshooting, etc.)

PLEASE BRING WITH YOU:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Physics or Engineering with >2 years of industry experience in manufacturing of optical products.
  • Strong background in laser optics and experience with opto-mechanical alignment processes
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Quality (DFQ) within a structured product development process in an industrial environment
  • Teamwork orientation with strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills, as well as commitment to continuous improvement
  • Experience using test and measurement equipment for laser characterization (autocorrelators, power meters, spectrometers, oscilloscopes, optical and RF spectrum analysers, etc.)
  • Experience in a manufacturing line or production environment
