Under supervision of the RN, serves as an integral member of the health care team by performing clerical and patient care assignments as delegated and permitted by law and regulatory bodies and institutional policies and procedures. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area.

Pay Range:  $15.30 - $19.62/hour

Employment Type:  Full Time, 72 hours every 2 weeks

Schedule: 7:00 am - 7:30 pm, includes every 3rd weekend 

Requirements:  High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required or proof of higher education, BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required

PATIENT CARE

  • Assists in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and receives written and/or verbal assignments and direction.
  • Documents patient care activities and patient data accurately using appropriate documentation forms and/or information systems.
  • Performs required clinical skills including but not limited to: Vital sign measurement; aseptic technique; specimen collection; hot and cold applications; simple respiratory therapy; post mortem care; ostomy care; and, application of orthopedic devices.
  • Performs patient care tasks related to activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, hair, skin, and oral care.
  • Completes assigned patient duties within the time-frame established by the Registered Nurse.
  • Gathers data including but not limited to: Intake; output; vital signs; patient height and weight; and, point-of-care test results.
  • Assists with admission, transfer, or discharge of patients.
  • Observes patients carefully for changes and reports in a timely manner.

STANDARDS

  • Utilizes information while upholding the policies and procedures of Holland Hospital to continuously improve patient care, safety, and practice to enhance outcomes.
  • Reports patient safety issues utilizing the occurrence reporting system.
  • Able to describe the unit based quality improvement activities and implications for practice.
  • Assists with data collection for quality improvement activities.
  • Assists with the identification of actual and potential risks to patient safety.
  • Achieves unit specific initial and ongoing competencies.
  • Provides close care/1:1 direct observation of patients to maintain patient safety as assigned.
  • Interacts with and contributes to the professional development and training of peers, colleagues, and students.

UNIT MAINTENANCE

  • Supports the operation of the unit by completing assigned tasks.
  • Performs ongoing supplies inventory.
  • Stocks and cleans patient care areas.
  • Assists with regulatory checks as delegated.
  • Maintains a neat, uncluttered environment in patient room and/or treatment area.

CLERICAL AND RECEPTION

  • Supports patient care and unit operations by completing assigned tasks under supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Performs file, chart, and forms maintenance.
  • Functions as unit receptionist by promptly, politely, and professionally answering phone and greeting visitors.
  • Assists with requests and facilitates communication between members of the health care team.
  • Assists with other clerical/reception duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of computer downtime procedures.

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required or proof of higher education

BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required

Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) preferred

Previous patient care experience preferred

Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Computer literate preferred

Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred
