Employee Type: Co-op (Trainee)

This program requires students currently pursuing an associate or technical welding degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the co-op experience. This program is not designed for graduates. Work will be performed at a surface lignite coal mine.

Job Description:
 

Duties/Tasks:

  • Perform welding repairs and fabrication on mining equipment
  • Read and understand blue prints to assemble and fabricate parts from them
  • Locate and repair cracks in metal parts and structural members
  • Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong work ethic with effective communication skills and a creative and innovative attitude  
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment, as well as individually with minimal supervision
  • Working knowledge of all phases of welding and cutting of metals and understanding metal properties
  • Ability to read blue prints with knowledge of rigging procedures
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts

Educational Requirements:

Enrolled in welding technology program and in good academic standing.
