Purpose of role:

Since inception in 2021 Institutional Investor Coverage (IIC) has been a key growth driver for GCIB APAC. Responsibility for strategy, balance sheet, clients and client outcomes is with the Regional Head of Institutional investors with dedicated IIC coverage teams in Australia, Singapore, HK and Mumbai. Clients are global and Asian sponsors, SWFs and pension funds while key IIC products are Sublines, EML, NAV, credit back leverage, hedging, selective type of RE and LAF and cross over structures combining different product elements

The position is a regional role purposed to : (1) Support the coverage strategy for the institutional investor segment in conjunction with the Head of IIC for APAC; (2) assist to implement and execute the strategy all as part of the Financial Institutions and broader Global Corporate & Institutional Banking business strategy.

Principal focus will be applied on enabling continuing IIC growth through further scaling and operational efficiency which requires oversight over a growing and complex regional book, coordination across IIC locations and the execution of bespoke solution trades. In addition the continued improvement in delivery of TB and cash for multi-product relationships and overall yearly material uplifts in revenue

This role plays an integral part in delivering the Bank’s products and services to the client by way of successful completion of a range of day to day tasks, including: the management of Institutional Investor customer portfolio (including preparation of client presentations, customer account plans and any portfolio related work), and from a regional perspective supporting the IIC country Relationship Managers to manage new transactions on an end to end basis


Job Responsibilities:

Strategic

  • FI Strategy and Focus: This role supports the ongoing growth & management of the Institutional Investors Asian business.  A proactive problem-solving attitude and high-quality standard need to be maintained and supported

  • Customer Acquisition under the FI Portfolio: Support the onboarding/origination of new Institutional Investor clients as part of our local, regional and global growth plans.

  • Responsible scaling and effective operational efficiency which will require strong oversight and control over the book and its embedded risks, tight coordination across locations and increasingly the execution of additional bespoke solution trades as well as better delivery of TB and cash.

Financial

  • No specific financial responsibilities.  The core role is to provide regional portfolio support to the Institutional Investors Teams and assist the Coverage Team Members to achieve their financial targets

Customer

  • Management of customer requests: Support the Relationship Managers in managing customer needs.

  • Direct customer engagement and support: The role will at times have direct engagement with Institutional Investor clients, and the employee is expected to be a good communicator, proactive, responsive and supportive at all times.

People

  • Collaboration: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key product partners and across the broader GCIB network (including regional Institutional Investor Coverage and Portfolio teams).

  • Teamwork: The role will sit within the regional Institutional Investor Coverage team but work across a broad range GCIB members, as well as Middle Office, Credit Risk, Operations & KYC teams, and at all times the employee will demonstrate a proactive and positive approach. 

  • Risk: Trust and faith from our risk representatives is crucial.

Other/ Control

Account Management: The Associate will support a portfolio of Institutional Investor clients with a focus on achievement of the Bank’s risk / return targets through:                                                                                                                             

  • tracking revenues against budgets and other metrics for the portfolio

  • pipeline management and account planning

  • assisting quarterly Funds Risk forum, credit review processes and internal rating reviews;

  • coordinating within the MUFG network for ancillary opportunities;

  • any other required tasks in accordance with the Bank’s policies and procedures and required to support the broader Financial Institutions business.        

Portfolio Management:  Support the in country Institutional Investors coverage team with all portfolio related matters & requests across the IIC client set, including a focus on risk / return and other strategic related work. Additionally, required to support APAC Head of Institutional Investors APAC with portfolio and strategy updates on ad hoc basis.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years in banking industry comprising minimum 3 years’ experience in Global institutional banking and credit research.

  • Experience working across institutional investors clients are advantageous.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of institutional investor industry, Fund Financing products, Global Market products, analytical skills and MS excel skills

  • Be able to engage in independent analysis of customers and markets and apply critical thinking and a high level of attention to detail;

  • Demonstrated ability and confidence to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally

  • Minimum Degree in Business or commerce or finance

  • Masters in Finance, MBA or Professional certification such as CFA are advantageous
