About you and this role

We have a great opportunity in a global and international environment for a Credit Specialist to join our team located in Warsaw (Poland)!

In your role as Credit Specialist you are part of the credit department within the II&I Business Segment. This role will oversee the credit risk and trade accounts receivable of customers within one business portfolio.

You will be tasked with ensuring the proper implementation and oversight of Dow’s credit policy, optimizing the credit risk/business reward balance, protect and enhance the company’s cash flow, ensure prompt turnover of receivables, minimizes bad debt losses, contributes to long term customer satisfaction, and supports the company’s financial and business objectives including internal controls. This role is a good opportunity for someone with a financial or analytical mindset that is looking to enter Business Finance or expand their skillset in a technical risk role that is both business and customer facing, and will work assisting experienced credit professionals in daily job.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall responsibility, supervision, and management of credit risk portfolio of moderate size and/or complexity, consistent with Dow’s credit risk management strategy.
  • Meet account receivable objectives and goals (i.e. DSO, Percent Current, Collections, etc.) and implement the credit strategy and action plans to anticipate business needs and credit requirements for the portfolio.
  • Work closely with Commercial, Business and Finance partners to discuss and review credit requirements, status and action plans.
  • Interpret internal and external business challenges to devise strategies to evaluate credit risk and establishes credit limits and payment terms to customers including the global coordination and implementation of corporate accounts.
  • Implement credit risk mitigating structures/credit enhancements to support credit limits by using traditional credit risk management instruments (such as guarantees, collaterals, letter of credits, etc.) and other innovative techniques (such as credit derivatives, securitization of receivables, trade finance operations, etc.).
  • Evaluate and determine the bad debt reserve requirements; coordinates Legal efforts/collections , and initiates requests for write off of doubtful accounts where needed.
  • Supervise performance of routine collections and resolution of customer’s discrepancies (Payment Receipt and Handling Process) and takes the lead role and ownership where determined necessary by the risk assessment or during the routine collection stage at any time if deemed appropriate.
  • Impact the achievement of customer and operational objectives by providing insightful differentiated financial services and consultation to these customers on complex issues, including financial support based on the customer’s risk assessment and business strategy.
  • Lead projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and complexity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or Related Discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in Finance/Accounting
  • Fluency in English is required, knowledge of any other language is beneficial

Your Skills

  • Understanding of Financial Statement Analysis Skills - Ability to interpret balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports to assess a customer's financial health and creditworthiness. This helps in making informed decisions about credit limits and payment terms.
  • Internal and External Negotiation Skills - Skilled in negotiating payment terms, credit structures, and dispute resolutions with both internal stakeholders (e.g., Commercial and Finance teams) and external customers to balance risk and business opportunity.
  • Problem Solving Skills - Capable of identifying root causes of payment delays or discrepancies and implementing effective solutions that align with Dow’s credit policy and customer satisfaction goals.
  • Analytical Mindset Skills - Strong ability to analyze complex data sets, trends, and risk indicators to support strategic credit decisions and optimize receivables management. Market/Economics Understanding Expertise - Awareness of macroeconomic factors and industry trends that may impact customer credit risk, enabling proactive adjustments to credit strategies.
  • Collaboration Across Functions - Experience working cross-functionally with Commercial, Business, and Finance teams to align credit actions with broader business objectives and ensure cohesive customer management.
  • SAP Skills (Desirable) - Familiarity with SAP systems for managing customer accounts, tracking receivables, and executing credit-related processes efficiently within Dow’s financial infrastructure.
