High Level Summary

Portfolio and Project Manager is responsible for driving end-to-end project execution, ensuring alignment with therapeutic area, disease area and compound strategies. This TA PPM role is a key partner to the Strategy and Portfolio Management team, collaborating to drive integrated development plans in collaboration with global and Japan program teams, manages project scopes such as timelines across multiple compounds, and monitors project status to proactively address risks and delays. Key responsibilities include proactive risk management and issue recovery actions, KPI tracking, coordinating resource allocation, and supporting governance processes. Additionally, the Project and Portfolio Manager supports TA’s or Program’s decision-making (integrating valuation metrics such as eDC and PTRS) to achieve project and corporate objectives and also supports continuous improvement through robust partnership with the JPT and functions such as TA department and through transparent reporting.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Partnership:
    • Serve as a CD TA partner to the Strategy and Portfolio Management team, ensuring alignment of project objectives with portfolio strategy, prioritization, and resource management.
    • Collaborate on portfolio reviews, risk vs. value analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Risk Management:
    • Build integrated risk management plans for all projects, with special attention to disease areas
    • Apply standardized risk management frameworks, including risk identification, assessment, mitigation, escalation, and reporting, in partnership with the Strategy and Portfolio Management team. 
    • Facilitate risk management training and adoption of new tools and processes across teams such as Japan Program teams or TA representatives.
  • Milestone, KPI & Metrics Management:
    • Define, track, and report on Milestones and key performance indicators (KPIs) for project delivery, risk mitigation, and portfolio health, in collaboration with the Strategy and Portfolio Management team. 
    • Use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Project Planning & Execution:
    • To keep program scopes, overseeing integrated development plans, timelines, and milestones, ensuring alignment with TA, disease area, and compound strategies.
    • Build an appropriate project initiation approach from both strategy and operational viewpoint
    • Monitor project status, proactively address risks and delays, and coordinate resource allocation.
  • Valuation & Portfolio Management:
    • Develop and apply valuation metrics (factors for eNPV such as eDC, PTRS, etc.) to support portfolio optimization and prioritization.
    • Partner with the Strategy and Portfolio Management team to drive portfolio excellence and value delivery.

Experience, capability and skill requirements

  • A bachelor degree in life science (advanced degree Ph.D. in scientific discipline and/or MBA is preferred)
  • At least 3 years experience in project management and/or functional management in one or more of the Pharmaceutical R&D functions
  • Professional project management certification and/or diploma (PMP) highly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in risk management, KPI tracking, and portfolio strategy.
  • Experience of managing or leading global or multi-country projects
  • Ability to deliver the outcomes under the ambiguity or complexity
  • Strong partnership skills with ability to collaborate across functions with people at all levels of the organization
  • Ability for proactive proposal building and proactive action takings without detailed instructions
  • Ability to respond flexibly to the changing project/task priorities and work assignments.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate without specific authority.
  • Ability to take a risk and to manage it without jeopardizing quality and/or compliance
  • Ability to build a forecast and action plan based on the organization strategy
  • Acts to makes a balance between short-term performance and long-term strategy.
  • Strong analytical skills with high IT literacy including proficiency in project management and analytical tools
  • Experience to ensure the business complies with all legal legislations through compliance with the highest standards of pharmaceutical industry propriety
  • Experience to assure business compliance and control within the Health Care Compliance obligations, Sarbanes Oxley and other audit requirements
  • Strong English communication skills
