Job Description:

The Recreational Therapist establishes and implements treatment programs individually designed to facilitate the development, maintenance, and expression of an appropriate leisure lifestyle for patients who have had a major physical, emotional or chemical dependency issue.

Job Specifics

Essential Functions

  • Maintains safe, consistent, and supportive environment by providing care in accordance with the multi-disciplinary treatment team, treatment plan and programs to meet patient care needs.
  • Coordinates the performance of subjective and objective initial and ongoing evaluations of patient's according to diagnosis, past history and physician referral.
  • Assures the definition of realistic goals for rehabilitation following assessment of specific problems.
  • Communicates treatment recommendations based on recreation assessment to the treatment team and identifies treatment intervention strategies to facilitate treatment planning.
  • Facilitates the assessment and re-assessment of the patient's physical and/or emotional problems and needs for recreational therapy as determined by history and results of evaluation procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy from an accredited institution (degree will be verified).
  • TRS licensure in the State of Utah

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current National Certification in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Basic Life Support Certification
  • Annual MANDT competency training

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate equipment and materials with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, and art material use.
  • Need to walk and push up to 50 pounds of supplies and equipment on rolling cart.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$26.47 - $40.87
