The Role

McKesson Global Procurement and Sourcing is seeking a Vice President of Private Label Business Development and Commercial Enablement to serve as the enterprise lead for portfolio expansion for McKesson’s generic private labels.  This person will partner with functional leaders and external partners to position the private label for product growth in alignment with enterprise, customer, partner, and patient needs.  The role will serve as the face of the private label with key suppliers and align strategies and tactics to drive joint growth objectives.  The role will also partner with business unit and sell side functions to ensure portfolio needs are met, expand product types for targeted channels, therapy areas, and dosage forms, and enable successful launches of on new product in line with business cases.   

The role requires generic pharmaceutical product experience and a deep understanding of the generic pharmaceutical landscape in the U.S., key market drivers for growth, industry threats and opportunities, and knowledge of manufacturing activities.  This role will both influence cross-functionally and lead a function accountable for specific new product growth objectives.  The role is based in one of McKesson’s key hubs and reports to the SVP, Private Label Generics.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and execute vision, strategy, and capabilities to evolve the business through product portfolio management and deliver exceptional growth
  • Act as an enterprise leader for generics private label new product development including pipeline strategy, portfolio management and new product in-licensing and development.
  • Execute a portfolio management approach to the PL portfolio focusing on innovative sourcing programs, cost management, portfolio optimization and life cycle management of products.
  • Develop and execute a leading value proposition for supplier partners to make McKesson’s PL the preferred commercial partner of choice and enhance value to patients.
  • Develop innovative approaches to new product launches, including launching more products and decreasing product launch cycle time.
  • Accountable for all pricing modeling and associated analytics focused on generic private label portfolio management, cost optimization, business intelligence, and profit expansion
  • Manage ongoing, proactive, and actionable communications with enterprise and external stakeholders concerning product category trends, sourcing, market conditions, and industry-related subject matter to ensure having a comprehensive industry picture and translate market developments into opportunities
  • Identify and develop significant and complex partnerships and licensing arrangements to create value for McKesson, customers, and suppliers
  • Work with the Commercial Leadership and to enhance sales of existing portfolio to existing customers and improve sales conversion on newly launched products, and driving strategy to increase market penetration of McKesson’s PL.
  • Serve as a key liaison with critical support functions including sell-side pricing, government price reporting, and all sales enablement functions
  • Develop an engaging culture that inspires and motivates organization to deliver exceptional results
  • Lead new product business development team and expand capabilities to identify, develop, and deliver new products
  • Build and retain high performing team, including development of leaders
  • Develop and drive a culture of continuous improvement
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external senior leaders, including key supplier partners globally
  • Own P&L results and business cases for product launches; responsible for generating significant growth via new product launches
  • Influence senior level executives in matrix environment

Qualifications 

  • 15+ years of product development experience preferably in pharmaceutical or medical industries
  • 10+ years of experience with generic pharmaceutical manufacturer environments
  • 5+ years in generic pharmaceutical new product development
  • Experience in selecting and launching new generic products
  • Proven success in business development and the commercialization of generic pharmaceuticals
  • Ability to build and grow complex partnerships; Strong experience negotiating supplier contracts and engaging with vendors is critical
  • Business strategy and demonstrated ability to grow businesses
  • Experience in building new teams and capabilities
  • Knowledge of the generic industry landscape
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills and ability to influence
  • Strong collaborator and ability to concurrently manage multiple stakeholders
  • Poise and confidence in interacting with varying levels of management
  • Advanced communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken 
  • Ability to build high-performing teams and develop talent for positive, performance culture
  • Financial acumen and understanding of financial models and experience with financial planning, budgeting, and capital allocation in the context of strategic planning and price management to achieve financial and operational goals.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in business or a related field is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.  In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.
