Forage Research Agronomist

The goal of this position is to develop and execute on new research projects that are critical for promotion of FGI products, as well as generate data that ties into other parts of the business like Truterra and Winfield United. The incumbent will also be responsible for assisting with on-farm duties at the Nampa R&D location and providing training and support to the FGI marketing and sales team.

This role will be located at the Forage Genetics Research Farm in Nampa, ID

Technical Support and Research Design (40%)

  • Coordinate and help execute forage systems-based research projects throughout US, working closely with FGI and Answer Plot teams
  • Develop pertinent data that can be used for marketing, as well as sustainability and cropping systems information relevant to enterprise goals
  • Assist in developing screenings and protocols to improve selection of insect pest resistant germplasm
  • Develop and promote cross-collaborative projects that help to benefit the enterprise and overall product positioning

Marketing/Sales Training Support (40%)

  • Work with FGI Marketing (including any collaborating agencies) to develop and/or review articles, technical bulletins, content for marketing materials, or other informational pieces that promote alfalfa and forage management
  • Work with marketing and sales on developing and presenting training materials as requested
  • Assist with in-field customer concerns, providing assistance to resolve or amend issues

Field Research Assistant (20%)

  • Work with Nampa Farm Manager to assist in field duties, including but not limited to: data collection, harvesting, seed collection, crossing, plot establishment, and plot maintenance

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelors in agronomy or related field required
  • PhD in Agronomy or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in agronomic research

Essential Functions:

  • Will work in an office and in the field conducting research
  • Required to lift items up to 50 lbs.
  • Access and utilize farm equipment, and move or traverse on uneven ground.
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons (planting, post applications and pollination seasons)
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets and databases for record keeping and data analysis

Compensation: 80k - 110k doe
