Overview

The Product Designer – Retail & Facility Solutions is responsible for designing and developing high-quality merchandise and facility solutions for Buc-ee’s. This position combines creative design with cost analysis, vendor sourcing, and operational efficiency to ensure products meet Buc-ee’s standards for quality, functionality, and profitability. The Product Designer and Analyst is innovative, detail-oriented, and highly organized with strong technical and analytical skills to bring fresh perspectives, with no prior experience in retail product design required.

NOTE: This position is an in-office Mon - Fri opportunity in our Austin, office.

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating and developing a long-term plan and ongoing strategy for existing and new product development and design

  • Researching market trends and consumer insights to identify opportunities for premium, durable merchandise and/or facility operation items and equipment

  • Designing products using CAD software (AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, Fusion 360) and preparing technical drawings for production

  • Conducting cost-benefit analysis for new designs, including material sourcing, tooling, and logistics

  • Identifying and evaluating potential vendors and manufacturing partners for high-quality production

  • Developing prototypes and overseeing testing for durability, performance, and brand aesthetics

  • Determining cost-effectiveness and profitability before full-scale production

  • Collaborating with internal teams (marketing, operations, supply chain) to align designs with brand standards and operational needs

  • Applying lean manufacturing principles and PFMEA practices to minimize waste and improve efficiency

  • Preparing financial models to forecast ROI and support decision-making for product launches

  • Maintaining documentation for SOPs and work instructions to support consistent production

  • Project management, including developing project plans, processes, and timelines

  • It is an essential function of this job for the employee to work in office/in the employee’s assigned work site. No remote work is available

The position requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Engineering, or related discipline and 2 years’ experience preferred, or BA/BS in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, Business, or related discipline and 4 years’ experience

  • Experience in product design, manufacturing engineering, or operations management

  • Strategically skilled in cost analysis and vendor sourcing, leveraging strong negotiation skills to secure optimal terms across domestic and international markets

  • Exceptional organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, Fusion 360) and ERP systems (Oracle preferred)

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and low-waste supply chain practices

  • Demonstrate excellent judgement and able to maintain confidentiality

  • Plan and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Solid communication and presentation skills through effective presentation of findings, insights, and recommendations
