Position Summary
Our laboratory’s research is aimed at understanding the host-pathogen interaction in the setting of bacterial infection. Experimental approaches involve bacterial culturing, manipulation through genetic approaches, microscopy, flow cytometry, molecular biology, functional cell-based in vitro assays, and in vivo modeling of infection in both mouse and rabbit models. This position offers the opportunity to join an innovative research team and contribute to a translational research project focused on vaccine development.

Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts research experiments and assays primarily through in vivo systems.
- Assists with the maintenance of the laboratory’s mouse colony (e.g., breeding and weaning mice and genotyping by either PCR or FACS analysis).
- Evaluates research results, reports findings and discusses project outcomes with staff involved.
- Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
- Coordinates tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
- Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Coordinates research project with other institutions and investigators.
- Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
- Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning.
- Performs literature research on specified topics.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical, and BSL2 pathogens. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment. Must be able to provide standard care to research animals and work with both mice and rabbits.
Schedule
Hours are generally normal business hours but may vary due to the timing for experiments and other research activity deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with or exposure to any of the following: 1) molecular and cellular biology techniques including cell culture, cloning, PCR, Western blotting, microscopy, and flow cytometry, 2) animal handling/procedures, and 3) experience with studies conducted under BSL2 conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
- Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
- Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in laboratory operations or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 6 years.

Salary Range
$17.10 - $29.09 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
