The Exercise Physiologist develops and oversees exercise prescriptions and progression for patients with cardiovascular disease in a rehabilitative setting, working as part of a five-member team, and divides time between Executive Health, where they conduct comprehensive fitness and health assessments and design tailored exercise programs, and private client services, providing one-on-one personalized training to support individual goals and overall wellness.
A caregiver in this position works days. From 5:30am—4:30pm or 7:00am—3:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.
Provide exercise prescriptions for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen.
Update exercise prescriptions according to patient response.
Implement concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.
Recognize contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise.
Appropriately respond to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
Provide exercise information to patients, peers and the community through public speaking and education classes.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in an exercise-related field
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross
Good interpersonal skills to work with patients, nurses, physicians and other exercise physiologists
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk.
Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients.
Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
