A Research Assistant position is available to join the Microbiome Medicine Laboratory led by Associate Professor Sunny Wong at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, part of Nanyang Technological University.

Our mission is centered on promoting and developing a sustainable research centre for conducting impactful translational microbiome research. The lab will focus on translational research, which is the process of turning basic research findings into tangible benefits for patients, Singapore, and the public at large. The candidate will join the team to undertake high quality research in microbiome medicine, in line with the overarching research strategy of the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide bioinformatics analysis and machine learning for omics projects and software compilations

  • Assist in development of testing and maintenance of modular software pipelines for genome sequencing, assembly, metagenomics, metabolomics analysis using high throughput sequencing platforms

  • Assist with management of data security of datasets and databases, compliances to university guidelines

Competencies and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related fields

  • Research or work experiences preferably in the bioinformatic or biomedical field

  • Experience using programme languages (such as JavaScript, R and Python)

  • Familiar with Unix (Linux) environment

  • Hands-on experience with in vitro cell culture assays, molecular and cell biology techniques will be an advantage

  • Able to work independently and as a team player
