Staff Field Applications Engineer

About the Role
As a Staff Field Applications Engineer at ADI, you will provide strategic technical leadership and expertise to support our most critical customers in designing and implementing complex ADI solutions. You'll serve as a distinguished technical authority bridging ADI technology with customer needs, leading pre-sales and implementation activities for strategic accounts. This role requires exceptional technical depth, system-level understanding, and leadership capabilities as you'll guide development teams, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to product strategy based on deep customer insights and market trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Technical Leadership: Lead complex technical engagements with strategic customers from concept through production, representing ADI as a subject matter expert
  • Advanced Solution Architecture: Architect sophisticated technical solutions that address challenging multi-disciplinary customer requirements and create competitive advantage
  • Reference Design Development: Create comprehensive reference designs, evaluation systems, and technical documentation that establish industry standards
  • Technical Consultation: Guide strategic customers through technical challenges, making critical recommendations that influence design decisions and technology adoption
  • Product Strategy Influence: Collaborate with product development teams to shape future product roadmaps based on deep customer insights and market trends
  • Technical Training: Develop and deliver advanced technical training programs for customers and internal teams
  • Mentorship and Knowledge Transfer: Mentor junior FAEs, establish best practices, and build organizational expertise through knowledge sharing
  • Cross-functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional technical initiatives that span multiple product lines and business units
  • System Integration Excellence: Design and integrate complex ADI solution sets into sophisticated customer applications, optimizing overall system performance
  • Technical Problem Resolution: Resolve escalated complex technical issues that require expert-level analysis and creative problem solving


Must Have Skills

  • Product Demonstration and Prototyping: Expert-level ability to create sophisticated prototypes and deliver compelling demonstrations of complex integrated solutions that clearly differentiate ADI technology for strategic customers
  • Solution Development and Customization: Mastery in architecting and developing innovative technical solutions that address multifaceted customer requirements across multiple product lines and technologies
  • Technical Consultation: Distinguished ability to assess complex customer needs, provide authoritative technical guidance, and influence strategic technical decisions throughout the customer engagement lifecycle
  • Product Capability Validation: Advanced expertise in validating product capabilities against demanding customer requirements, identifying optimization opportunities, and ensuring solutions provide competitive advantages
  • System Design and Integration: Comprehensive mastery of system design principles with proven ability to optimize complex integrated solutions across multiple disciplines and product lines
  • Technical Presentation: Expert capability to deliver compelling technical presentations to senior technical and executive audiences, translating complex concepts into business value propositions
  • Technical Documentation: Superior ability to create comprehensive technical documentation including authoritative application notes, technical white papers, and reference designs that establish industry standards


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
  • 10+ years of relevant technical experience in semiconductor applications or related field
  • Proven track record in technical leadership roles
  • Deep expertise in analog and mixed-signal circuit design
  • Advanced knowledge of digital design, embedded systems, and multiple industry protocols
  • Programming proficiency across multiple languages
  • Experience with FPGA development and complex system architecture
  • Understanding of manufacturing and production processes
  • Project management experience with demonstrated success leading complex technical projects
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% to support strategic customer engagements
