Job Description

The Limited Medical Radiology Technician (LMRT), under general physician supervision, operates x-ray equipment with the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer. This position also serves as the lead medical assistant and is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients. Oversees the cleanliness of exam and treatment rooms and monitors patient care rooms and nurses’ stations. Serves as a mentor and assists supervisor with training and supervision of medical assistant I staff and student workers.

This position is located in Stephenville, TX. Work hours are M-F 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Must be available for occasional on-call x-ray duties involving the care of student athlete injuries that may occur after hours.  Must be able to work remotely at the request of the University.


Responsibilities:

50% Radiology

  • Operates radiographic equipment, positions patients, and takes x-rays of patients’ chest, limbs, or other parts of the body.

  • Performs related work as assigned, including but not limited to, insurance verifications, pre-authorizations, and referrals. Ensures x-ray units meet standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies.

  • Assists RSO (Radiation Safety Officer) with duties to ensure safer operation of x-rays equipment and ensure compliance with inspections and annual fees.

  • Must be available for occasional on-call x-ray duties involving the care of student athlete injuries that may occur after hours. 

  • Assists with upkeep and maintenance of ultrasound equipment as the need arises.

50% Medical Assistant

  • Serves as the lead medical assistant for the Chief Medical Officer and provides patient care activities on a daily basis.  May also assist the other medical providers with their patients on an as needed basis.

  • Transfers patients from reception to patient care areas. Measures vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse respiration and obtains height and weight.

  • Interviews patients for updated medical history and documents information and other activities in the electronic medical records. Prepares patients for tests, exams, and procedures and provides basic patient education.

  • Performs basic procedures including, but not limited to: injections, vision screening, auditory exams, ear lavage, minor wound care, nebulizer treatments, throat swabs, fitting ortho slings, splints, and braces.  

  • May occasionally assist with applying casts and removing them with a cast saw.  Assists and/or chaperones physician during exams or procedures, transfers specimen, and documents testing and lab results in medical records.

  • Serves as a liaison between patient and providers.

  • Prepares and administers injections and dispenses medication as directed by physician.

  • Oversees and ensures the cleanliness of exam and treatment rooms are maintained at the highest standards to prevent spread of infection in patient-care areas.

  • Monitors the stocking of patient care rooms and nurses’ stations to ensure supplies are on hand as needed for patient care.

  • Serves as a mentor for best practices to Medical Assistant I staff and student workers. Assists supervisor with training and supervision of Medical Assistant I staff and student workers.

  • Updates health information in electronic medical records. Assists providers in maintenance of electronic medical records.

  • May draw blood and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.

  • Escalates non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the supervisor or healthcare provider(s).

  • Performs office projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Fills in for others and performs other duties as assigned to assist other team members.

Education and Experience:
-Associates degree in Radiologic Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-3 Years of related experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.  

-Knowledge of imaging equipment and its regular maintenance.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:

-LMRT or NCT licensing
-Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)

Salary

The target base salary is $21.15/hour and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
