Job Description Summary:

Provides professional nursing care while in the OR and coordinates care with other disciplines. Performs assessment of the individual patient and procedure, anticipates the needs of the surgical team and provides services, while maintaining an aseptic and safe environment.

Qualifications:

  • Current Montana RN License or a multi state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana; required.
  • BSN degree preferred.
  • Current HCP CPR certification required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ OR experience preferred. PACU experience preferred.
  • CNOR, PACU, or other certification in specialty area preferred.
  • Current ACLS and PALS certification preferred, or must successfully obtain within six (6) months of hire as applicable to assigned area(s).

Job Specific Duties:

  • Performs and documents a pre-procedure assessment on admission to the pre-operative holding area according to AORN Standards. Utilizes all available sources of information and incorporates the patient’s perception of illness. 
  • Develops an individualized plan of care for each surgical patient and updates the plan throughout the operative procedure as appropriate. Continually assesses and documents intra-operative patient condition.
  • Consistently maintains a sterile field and identifies safety issues concerning the patient and staff.  
  • Utilizes department Standard of Care and individualizes care provided on an on-going basis.
  • Completes all documentation regarding all charges and implant/explant information appropriately; provides documentation for inclusion in the permanent patient record.
  • Delivers all medications to the patient and to the operative field in accordance with OR policy and procedure.  Coordinates with surgeons the types, concentrations, and doses of medications introduced to the sterile field.
  • Follows policies on the administration of IV fluids and blood products and documents these accurately and appropriately.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professionalism while undertaking and completing all department competencies and advanced primary certifications. 
  • Completes and provides to assigned leadership any competency post-tests as applicable to assigned area(s). Annual department competencies may include:
    • Malignant Hyperthermia
    • SDS
    • Fire safety in the OR
    • Crash Cart/Defibrillator Set-up

Schedule:
