Founding Product Designer

You'll be our first designer, working directly with our co-founders to define how police officers experience our product — from the first tap during a traffic stop to the moment a finished report lands in their records system.

The work spans a modern AI product: a mobile app police officers use in the field; the AI pipeline that turns voice, photos, and notes into report-ready output; a laptop agent that fills report forms; and the flows that make all of it feel simple to someone working at night, mid-incident, with a radio going.

This role is for someone who can own design end-to-end — research, flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, and prototypes — and drive from ambiguity to shipped product.

About This Role

  • In person, NYC. We work together in the New York City area, with hybrid flexibility. We believe the most effective and fun way to build a company is in a room together.

  • In the field. Everyone on the team spends time with customers! Expect some travel to customer sites to watch officers use what you built, then fix what's wrong.

  • AI-native. The founding team ships with AI tools every day. We expect the same fluency in your design workflow — moving from concept to testable prototype in hours, not weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Own product design end-to-end: research, flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, and prototyping across mobile and desktop.

  • Lead customer research and discovery — plan it, run it in the field, and turn it into product decisions.

  • Design for the realities of police work: one-handed use, interrupted sessions, low light, high stress, and zero patience for friction.

  • Partner with engineering to ship — your designs go to production, not to a deck.

  • Build the design foundation the company will grow on: patterns, components, and the standard for what good means here.

Qualifications

  • Deep experience designing mobile apps that shipped and that people actually use.

  • Experience leading customer research and discovery while a product was still finding product-market fit.

  • Range — from workflow-level design down to pixel-level UI, and the judgment to know which a problem needs.

  • Fluency with modern AI-powered design tools and a genuinely fast workflow.

  • Comfort working directly with founders, engineers, and frontline users — no design org, no handoff process.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

What Success Looks Like

Twelve months in:

  • Officers describe the product as "easy" — the highest compliment this user base gives.

  • Field research is a running engine that visibly shapes the roadmap.

  • Engineers build faster because your designs answer questions before they're asked.

  • The design foundation you built scales cleanly as the team and product grow.

  • Departments renew and expand partly because the product feels like it was built by people who understand their work.
