About the Role
As a Data Science Research Intern, you will conduct applied research in collaboration with Elsevier’s Data Science and AI experts. You will work on a focused thesis topic that contributes to advancing the use of data science, machine learning, and AI in real-world information management challenges. This internship offers the opportunity to publish, prototype, and demonstrate impact within a global data-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute a research project aligned with a defined thesis topic in data science or AI.

• Explore, prototype, and evaluate models or algorithms using Elsevier data under supervision.

• Conduct literature reviews and translate academic insights into practical applications.

• Present progress, findings, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and domain experts across the organization.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an MSc program in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.

• Strong foundation in statistics, machine learning, and data analysis.

• Experience with Python and common data science libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).

• Ability to work independently and manage a research project with minimal supervision.

• Excellent analytical thinking, communication, and documentation skills.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with NLP, graph analytics, or knowledge representation.

• Experience with large-scale or unstructured data.

• Interest in applied research and bridging theory with practice.
