Align provides data center white space design, consulting and project management professional services for data center REITs, colocation providers and end users. We seek a motivated Pre-Sales Engineer with data center industry knowledge. Candidates must have pre-sales experience and industry knowledge related to data center white space fit-out. Candidates must possess a good understanding of IT cooling methods including direct water-cooled solutions, such as liquid to the chip and rear door heat exchangers.

You will provide technical support to our sales team, translating complex client requirements into innovative, sustainable data center solutions. This is an entrepreneurial career opportunity working with the Sales Leadership within our firm. You will provide pre-sales engineering support for professional services solutions related to all facets of the white space fit out and work alongside a team of industry leading data center experts.

Our Data Center Design and Build solutions cover all aspects of data center white space design, deployment and implementation including: 

Design – Understand customer requirements and support a design that best utilizes their new data center facility.  This focus of design is the structural support systems, power distribution to the cabinet level, carrier infrastructures, structured cable plant and overall data center layout.

Oversight – Focus on managing the implementation of the project, as designed, to ensure subcontractors are adhering to design criteria and building the data center to the client’s expectations, on time and within budget. 

Project Management – Ensure that the required completion date is on target, chair meetings with the client and subcontractors, and provide regular updates on progress to the customer.

  • The position is remote, but should be available to travel to support sales as needed, approximately 50% at times. Ideally a candidate would be located near one of our data center hubs located below, but this is not a requirement:

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience required.
  • 3-7 years of related technical data center engineering experience, including: comprehensive understanding of data center fit out and construction processes
  • Prior pre-sales experience related to large-scale data center white space buildouts including an understanding of the technical sales process
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure design and construction techniques, operational requirements and challenges, data center fit-out projects, equipment and technology advances and general industry trends.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of the mechanical build out of hyperscale data center white space and critical facilities that support artificial intelligence and high-performance computing
  • Knowledge of IT cooling methods and advanced data center liquid cooling solutions designed for modern computing technology such as direct water-cooled solutions, liquid to the chip, and rear door heat exchangers
  • Has the experience and knowledge to help vet installers for liquid cooling solutions
  • Knowledge of specifications, codes, and standards used in commercial HVAC and Data Center industries
  • Travel is required on a regular basis to perform this role.  
  • Ability to manage client expectations and create all required pre-sales documentation
  • High level communication and client relationship building skills are required.
  • Ability to estimate projects and create sales proposals for new business opportunities with assistance from the solution leads.
  • Knowledge of bid documents and contractor bid levelling.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the sales team and act as a technical resource for qualifying, sales leads, closing new sales opportunities, and addressing the technical needs of larger projects
  • Assist the sales team in developing and delivering compelling presentations, proposals, and demonstrations including responding to RFPs, RFIs, and RFQ and putting packages together for customers
  • This position utilizes excellent products/solutions/services skills and customer knowledge to act as a consultant for developing solutions related to hyper-scale data center whitespace buildout
  • Assist with vetting installation partners, including water cooling installation partners
  • Collaborate with partners and internal sales team on new solutions and refine GTM strategy and offerings.
  • Provide technical input and identify new opportunities for existing clients.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies to provide strategic insights, including but not limited to:
    • Advanced liquid cooling architectures and implementations
    • Reference architectures for AI deployments
    • Next-generation power solutions and renewable energy integration
    • Innovation in sustainable data center practices
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for clients and internal teams to enhance product and technical knowledge
  • Apply market and account skills necessary for dealing with specific, high-level target customers
