What You Will Do:

This position requires an experienced and highly skilled creative writer and analytical thinker that can help CISA’s Capacity Building more effectively tell its story and engage with CISA/CSD/CB customers and stakeholders to inform and influence. This senior strategic communications SME will create communications and marketing strategies that will drive messaging to aid in client growth objectives, including but not limited to areas of internal communication, external communication, organizational culture, employee satisfaction and retention, and change communication.

This position requires someone with experience interviewing subject matter experts on current and past program and work to develop dynamic, informative, and impactful content (i.e., blog post, speaking engagements, speeches, articles, etc.), and understand the federal government landscape, customers, and audiences.

Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Ability to develop a strategic communication plan for a cybersecurity organization.
  • Ability to develop campaign goals and think strategically to influence key stakeholders, the public, and other audiences in order to communicate an organizational objective.
  • Provide effective communication support to help define strategic goals and objectives for individual programs and for broader CB tailored efforts to various audiences.
  • Ability to develop dynamic storytelling content (to include, but not limited to, storyboards, success stories, blog posts, speaking engagement talking points, memos, speeches/leadership messages, and briefing materials) to effectively communicate how we advance CISA/CSD/CB strategic goals.
  • Perform technical writing/editing that can assess a variety of technical guidance and policy documents/ products/services/trainings and create language/story about a larger concerted effort in an organized and cohesive manner. For example, being able to tie a series of Zero Trust guidance products to a larger story about how CISA is working to advance a key pillar of the maturity model that CISA created and  reinforcing trust in CISA's plan/leadership in the Zero Trust space. 
  • Ability to understand a variety of targeted audiences and develop content to strategically inform and influence across a variety of audiences. 
  • Ability to take technical or complex subject matter content/information and communicate into meaningful plain language messaging/story to a variety of audiences (i.e. senior executives/leadership, the general public, Congress, etc.) that clearly communicates the “what” and the “why”
  • Review speaking engagement requests and opportunities and evaluate audience, topic, etc. in alignment with CB’s broader strategic plan/priorities and make recommendations to leadership, as needed.

What You Will Need:

  • Ability to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN a Federal or DoD Public Trust
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • FIVE (5) or more years’ of experience in Cybersecurity or Information Security or Communications or Technical Writing or Program/Project Management and/or Technology Consulting

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Experience with managing, supporting and/or knowledge of cybersecurity
  • Experience developing and maintaining working relationships while serving Federal clients onsite and remotely.
  • Ability to identify obstacles and opportunities that impact the success of plans or initiatives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate leadership when interacting with clients and fellow team members.
  • Experience managing direct client engagement team to deliver impactful support to Federal clients.
  • Background or experience in public relations, marketing, crisis communication, advertising, persuasion theory, and communication campaigns.
  • Ability to develop a cohesive CB-wide story, clear messaging on key priorities and objectives, program updates and new efforts.
