Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Supply Chain Global Field Operations(GFO) Industrial Engineering is looking for a Senior Industrial Engineer based on Tokyo, Japan (or Nagoya, Japan) to perform and lead core industrial engineering activities in support of the Boeing Supply Chain partners across the country of Japan. This position will perform supplier operations management activities, supplier production planning and readiness assessments, develop operational planning tools and reports, lead Lean continuous improvement events, support production recovery efforts, program production rate increases and new work business project management.  In addition, the candidate for this position will also support creating and establishing data visualization tools to aid the Supply Chain team. The ideal candidate for this position will be eager to connect with all stakeholders domestic and international to expeditiously resolve emerging supply chain issues and support planning and proactive supply chain risk mitigation.  Success within the position will require partnership with Boeing Supply Chain teams stationed at strategic supplier sites to ensure effective and efficient product delivery to Boeing Operations within the United States.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead on-site supplier assessments to identify supplier capability and to support Boeing Supply Chain Asia Strategy.
  • Plan, prepare, train, apply and support improvement projects to achieve goals at key supplier sites; partner with cross-functional Boeing and supplier teams.
  • Apply Lean Six Sigma, Theory of Constrains, Operational Excellence, and System Engineering principles to identify waste and improve efficiency in various manufacturing environments.
  • Identifies new techniques and technological developments for integration into the production process and service operations.
  • Identify production constraints and inefficiencies to drive improvement plans to reduce flow days, reduce unit production hours, and improve quality.
  • Lead the development of recovery plans and monitor supplier performance-to-plan to ensure performance to contractual commitments in support of Boeing programs.
  • Develop operations management tools to support and monitor emergent offload, work transfers and new business awarded to suppliers within Supply Chain Asia.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including Boeing and supplier leadership, to ensure tactical approach and progress meets plan requirements.
  • Analyzes and supports the design of the value stream, including capability, capacity (e.g., make/buy, supplier selection, risk analysis, supplier performance), throughput, work flow and logistics (e.g., critical path, lead-time, transportation, factory layout).
  • Develop queries and tools to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations.
  • Propose and develop data infrastructure to integrate company data sources to proactively measure supplier performance.
  • Coach other employees on Industrial Engineering and Lean techniques.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor or higher degree of Science degree from an accredited course of study in Industrial or Manufacturing engineering, or other additional accredited course of study in another field such as Computer Science, Software Engineering. Minimum 8 years of operations management experience.
  • Business level written and oral communication skills in Japanese and English.
  • Extensive experience preparing and presenting recommendations and proposals for review by executive and senior management personnel.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience at a U.S. multinational company; an English-speaking environment is strongly preferred.
  • Possesses critical thinking, strategic thinking and business acumen.
  • Flexible and open mindset with an ability to perform in a dynamic international environment with a shifting work statement and priorities. A willingness and desire to take on new tasks that may be outside normal daily operations.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships based on trust and mutual respect.
  • Proactive service ownership and problem solving mindset. Ability to partner with process owners to resolve issues, drive continuous improvement and adhere to project and reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with colleagues in English across teams in Japan and other countries in the region.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (ie. SQL, Python).
  • Experience programming in Tableau or other data visualization tools.

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).

Location:

The selected candidate will be required to work on-site (with some flex) at one of the Boeing Offices in the Tokyo or Nagoya areas.
