As a market leader in diagnostic imaging, patient monitoring, and home healthcare solutions, we play a vital role in supporting clinicians, patients, and society.

In this context, the Accounting Operations Market Lead Japan serves as the senior-most leader overseeing all accounting and financial operations in the Japanese market—a highly strategic and influential position within the organization.

Position Overview

The Accounting Operations Market Lead Japan is responsible for shaping the accounting strategy, driving operational excellence, and ensuring robust financial governance across the Japan market. This role integrates Philips’ global accounting frameworks with the unique regulatory and commercial requirements of Japan’s healthcare sector, including complex revenue models such as leases, long-term service contracts, subscriptions, and public procurement.

This is a high-impact leadership role that partners closely with senior management, global finance teams, and business units to support sustainable business growth in one of Philips’ most important markets.

Your role:

1. Strategic Accounting Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of advanced accounting policies and procedures aligned with global standards (IFRS/GAAP) and Japan’s regulatory environment.
  • Guide strategic accounting decisions and ensure compliance while supporting business performance.

2. Ownership of Global Financial Reporting

  • Oversee all financial reporting activities for the Japan market, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely submission.
  • Coordinate closely with regional and global finance teams to align reporting practices across multiple jurisdictions.

3. High-Level Financial Analysis & Insights

  • Direct the creation of analytical frameworks to identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Provide strategic insights that influence executive decision‑making and long‑term business planning.

4. Process Optimization & Digital Transformation

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across accounting processes, enhancing productivity through automation, RPA, and modern digital tools.
  • Champion innovation to strengthen operational efficiency and reporting accuracy.

5. People Leadership & Talent Development

  • Manage and mentor senior accounting professionals, empowering them to take ownership of key processes.
  • Build a high-performing, collaborative, and growth-oriented team culture.

6. Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, and business units to align financial objectives with market strategy.
  • Act as a key connector between business operations and financial governance.

7. Governance, Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Oversee the implementation of strong internal controls across financial operations.
  • Ensure risk mitigation, compliance, and asset protection in a highly regulated healthcare environment.

8. Executive Reporting & Communication

  • Present complex financial results, analyses, and insights to senior leadership in a clear and impactful manner.
  • Support strategic reviews and business planning cycles with high-quality financial deliverables.

9. Global Accounting Standards Compliance

  • Ensure all accounting activities comply with IFRS, GAAP, and global Philips accounting guidelines.
  • Embed ethical, transparent, and compliant financial practices across the organization.

10. Integration of ESG Principles

  • Promote the inclusion of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) considerations in financial reporting and decision‑making.
  • Support Philips’ global commitment to sustainability and responsible business conduct.

Why This Role Is Attractive

  • High-impact leadership role responsible for all accounting operations in a top global market.
  • Exposure to complex and dynamic financial environments specific to the healthcare and medical device industry.
  • Opportunity to lead transformation initiatives, including automation, digitalization, and process re‑engineering.
  • Direct collaboration with global and regional senior leadership, influencing strategy and key decisions.
  • A role with both strategic influence and hands-on operational leadership, offering a broad scope.
  • Contribute to Philips’ mission of improving lives and advancing healthcare through innovation.

You're the right fit if:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial operations within a global company.
  • 5+ years of people management experience, including the leadership of senior-level professionals.
  • Fluent Japanese (native‑level) and business‑level English required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and deep understanding of GAAP and global accounting standards.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a complex matrix organization.
  • Experience in industries with complex revenue models (e.g., leasing, subscription, long-term maintenance contracts, capital equipment).
  • Ability to interpret and implement accounting treatments for multi‑year service agreements, inventory management, and public procurement.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with business units, operations, supply chain, and executive leadership.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment across functions.
  • Ability to work seamlessly with global finance leadership teams.
