Who You Will Work With:  
 

Reporting to the Product Enablement Services Lead, the Platform Engineering, Senior Specialist is a key owner of Interac’s Ingress/Egress platforms—driving their reliability, evolution, and long‑term health. This role goes beyond day‑to‑day operations, combining deep technical stewardship with performance optimization, proactive problem‑solving, and incremental platform enhancements to ensure secure, resilient, and highly available connectivity across Interac’s critical payment services.

What You Will Do:  

  • Operate, maintain, and optimize the Ingress/Egress platform and supporting components. 

  • Troubleshoot connectivity, routing, TLS/certificate, and traffic flow issues across internal and external systems. 

  • Own and standardize secure service onboarding patterns, providing architectural guidance to product teams. 

  • Perform log & trace analysis to diagnose issues and drive resolution across network/application layers. 

  • Support platform upgrades, configuration tuning, certificate rotations, and release deployments. 

  • Collaborate with security, architecture, and product teams to ensure compliance, reliability, and resiliency. 

  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, deployment guides, and operational procedures. 

What You Bring: 

Platform & Container Tooling 

  • Docker CLI, Docker Compose, container runtime fundamentals 

  • Git, Jenkins, Artifactory deployment flows 

Languages / File Formats 

  • Strong proficiency in Python and scripting, with experience designing maintainable, production-grade platform tooling and automation. 

  • YAML, INI configuration formats 

Networking & Traffic Management 

  • Envoy Proxy (or similar Layer 7 proxies) 

  • Understanding of L4 vs L7 routing, connection pooling, keep-alives 

  • Load balancing concepts and health probing 

  • Experience designing and tuning high-throughput, low-latency traffic flows.  

  • Deep understanding of failure modes in distributed systems and networked platforms. 

Security Fundamentals 

  • RSA cryptography (encryption, signing) 

  • JSON Web Token (JWT), X.509 cert formats 

  • TLS validation, mutual TLS, certificate pinning 

Triage & Troubleshooting 

  • Log and trace analysis 

  • Familiarity with tools: grep, sed, jq, curl, wget, zcat 

  • Ability to interpret stack traces and failure patterns end-to-end 

Application Development (Nice to Have but Not Primary) 

  • Comfortable making small code changes / patches for reliability and bug fixes 

Ideal Profile 

  • 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, SRE, or backend engineering roles, with demonstrated ownership of production platforms. 

  • 4+ years of proven ability to lead technical initiatives, influence architecture decisions, and operate confidently in missioncritical environments. 

  • Strong operational mindset; focuses on stability, uptime, and reliability. 

  • Clear, structured communicator who can collaborate with engineers, service owners, and product teams. 

  • Comfortable working in production-critical environments.

The hiring range for this position is $100K-$120K and you will also be eligible for our short-term incentive plan. The exact amount will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, but Interac’s commitment goes beyond compensation.
